Nella,
I was thinking about the heat issue on those brooders, too; but I was worried about ventilation being adequate. Mine are inside a garage, so I was hoping it would stay warmer in there than in the coops. Hey, I think I have one of those opaque covers laying around here somewhere, too!

Cyn,
She is gonna love that quilt! I think it would be great with any decor, with the beautiful colors .... better than having a vase of flowers in the room!

LH,
Hope your horsey gets to you soon ..... before you have a heart attack!

Tim,
We gotta get Brandon into some Dellies. He has not had them (YET)!

Hey there, Terry! Welcome!

Thanks. I think these NHs are just gorgeous. I love their color!

Caffeine .... dang, I am always sitting my cup down somewhere outside, and go searching for it. One time I was uploading pictures and said, "HEY, there is my cup!" LOL Believe me, I drank a ton of caffeine on my little road trip!

Good garden o' peas! What is this world commin too? I have 8 dels and 2 ee's in the coop and got 5 eggs that may be dels 4 of those hens are two. The other coop has 12 hens and I got 4 eggs. Granted some of them will be two in Feb, but the Dels are def better layers. Did I mention I got 25 eggs in the bator? There might be a couple not dels but they should be 1/2 del and discernable from the others.

Ok refresh my antique memory, who is brandon and where is he from? Does he have a bator?

Cyn that quilt is going to be beautiful. I absolutely love it!

NellaBean...no word yet, if all went well, he should be nearing Joleta now...depending on how he feels and if he is going to need sleep in a couple of hours will determine if he loads her tonight or does so in the am. he is going to call me when he either has her loaded or has made the decision to wait till morning. So...I shall report back when I hear.

Sounds like a good price. Good for you. Now what are you going to hatch?

Thanks, I have a BYC member suppose to be sending some Barred Rocks. Thats all I know at the moment. I have 26eggs in my homemade bator at the moment. Due to hatch next Saturday. Hoping the new bator gets here by the end of the week

Cyn, I love that quilt- that is just beautiful- so serene- that is one I would hang on the wall where everyone could see it.

Kathy- have posted pics of the new kids anywhere yet? Have I missed them?

Cetawin, we are dead and going to bed early, email me what you hear, OK?

I may be off to bed soon myself--feel a headache coming on.

Have to order the backing for that quilt tomorrow. That is the last day for $1 off quilt backs at thousandsofbolts.com. I am getting a gorgeous fabric I saw at a Murphy quilt shop for almost HALF their price per yard! Why pay $15/yd when you can pay $8.95, right?

It's this 108" wide quilt back:

Cynthia, that quilt is positively exquisite!

I love all of the colors and how soft they look all together like that. It reminds me of an Impressionist's painting! Top notch stuff you're making there lady! Makes me impatient to be done with this house so I can more permanently set up my sewing machine and join you in all of this quilting fun!

They say that good things come to those who wait.....we'll just have to see about that, huh?!?

Cetawin? It's been the better part of 4 hours now since your last report. Any news? I'm starting to feel those pins and needles you must be sitting on right about now. Even I am getting antsy to hear that she's on her way!
lol.png
Do let us know as soon as you hear anything!

Beth, sweetie, BREATHE!!! Whew! You're making me tired just thinking of all of the running around you're doing today!

Nella: Have you thought about making two of the translucent panels per door, and setting them in a groove track so that you can slide them back and forth? That would give you better control over ventilation and regulation of the temperatures inside of the brooder. If it starts to get too hot, then slide one of the panels back to allow more outside air in. If it gets to cold, then simply close it. It seems to me that this would be far more preferable to a single, stationary panel. And I know darn well that you're clever enough to come up with a track system to do it too!

Brandon: Congrats on your award of Employee of the Year at work and the reward you've given to yourself for a job well done!

I like the way you think!

Now you need to stuff that sucker just as full as you can get it with a good run of Delawares!
lol.png
Though BR's are going to be delightful as well. You do understand, don't you, that you now need to post pictures of your new toy, all full of eggs, so the rest of us can drool all over it! Right? Right!!

Well, I got a bit of the tile laid in the laundry room today. Better than 2/3rds along on that little project, but now I'm going to have to kick Denny and his desk out of there so that I can get that area taken care of as well. I just wish I knew for certain what I'm going to do about the trap door in that floor that goes to the small root cellar we have down in the crawlspace under the house.

If I tile that with the same tiles as the rest of the floor, then the door will all but completely disappear into the rest of the floor. But, using the same tiles would be terribly heavy too.

We can use some of those small gas filled shocks like they use on the rear door of minivans and SUVs to help counter the weight. It would be fairly simple to rig something like that up, I'm sure. But part of me wants to do a mosaic scene and really make the trap door stand out from the rest of the floor. Decisions! Decisions! Decisions!

There's also the chance that I might finish it off in hardwood to match the great room. Except I still have no clue what kind of hardwood we'll be using in the great room as yet.
roll.png
*sigh* So many choices to make. And the choices we're making now are of the expensive kind...finish materials and such...never a cheap proposition at best! We certainly don't want to screw it up at this point due to the expensive nature of the materials. Redo's could be prohibitive cost wise!

Tomorrow we're expecting company from Olympia [our previous location] from folks we haven't seen in about 4 years or so now. They'll be stopping by on their way to see their grand daughter who is attending college at WSU in Pullman, about an hour and a half drive south of us. I guess it's the kid's birthday or something..... so they're just stopping in for a break from the road and a couple of cups of coffee. It should be fun. Neither Pat nor Tom has seen the place, or even pictures of it, since my last email update....and that was nearly 2 years ago!
lol.png
Yeah, I'm the Queen of Procrastination here! Can't wait to see the look on their faces when they see a nearly completed home!
big_smile.png

OK kiddiwinks! It's getting late and I still haven't adjusted to going off of DST, and I can't find any toothpicks to keep my eyes open any longer! I think I'm heading for bed now.
9.gif
I wish you all a good night's sleep, filled with sweet dreams. Yack with y'all in the morning...ooooo!! And no getting up ridiculously early to chase silly animals all over the place!
wee.gif

Wow, Cyn, that quilt back is gonna be perfect for that quilt! That is a lovely shade of green, and I love the pattern of it.

Nella, Forgot to tell ya ...... I love that picture of the broody mama and her babies!

I am not doing too well with my winter preparation. I haven't even dug out all my stuff yet. I need to make a checklist and get it all ready. I have electricity in the coops, but I still have to use extension cords. Last year I bought those heavy duty outside cords in smaller lengths than those big orange ones DH has. *Hmmm, now what did I do with those cords?*

I made a few of those water heaters out of cookie tins, too. They did work pretty well. I just hate dealing with ice. I think I will try Cyn's idea this year, or just plug in a heat lamp over the waterer. I dunno .....
idunno.gif
I am just in denial, and don't want to deal with it.

Amy, I hope you have a great visit with your visitors! Have you been taking pictures, so you can update your BYC page? I love that page!
