Thanks for the link Kathy. Now I'm going to have to see if I can coax my scanner into working one more time. Maybe its reluctance to work properly is a hint that I should just leave that idea alone!

Cynthia, I think ya look darn good at all ages! Geesh lady! What I wouldn't give to have your good looks! And NO! There's nothing wrong with my eyesight!

I'm glad to hear that Olivia's last days were pleasant ones. Sometimes that makes it harder to watch them go, but it beats the heck out of your last memories of her being ones of her being in constant pain and misery. You and I both know she is truly happy now!

Well, today is the very last day of the 2010 Elk Modern Firearm season. It's raining!

Guess who ain't going hunting. If you guessed DH and me, you'd guess right! It's just not....well...I'm not gonna say it's not worth it...it's always worth it!! Let's just say we're both getting too dang old for this foolishness! I don't need a raging case of pneumonia, or a broken leg/ankle/hip or what have you. Nor does Denny! So, the Elk are safe for yet another year.

On the up side of yesterday's hunt, we finally met Mr. J. Bruce. He's the landholder that owns/manages the huge chunk of land that splits, right down the middle, the other piece of private land we've been hunting. And it's a considerable chunk too! Over 2 square miles of additional private land! Sometimes, Denny and I are just too law abiding for our own good!
lol.png
We won't trespass, and we won't cross unmarked fences unless we know for a fact that it's simply cross fencing within the larger boundary fence line.

So, in talking to Mr. Bruce, we've found out what his requirements are for obtaining the written permission to hunt his vast tracts of land.
wee.gif
All I'm gonna say is that come the first Monday in June, we'll be camped out on his front porch to get our names at the very top of the very short list of hunters who will receive written permission to hunt his land!
wee.gif
It's going to be so nice to be able to hunt from one end of the area to the other, without having to follow fence lines!! I can hardly wait for hunting season next year!!!

Anyhoo, since the weather is being such a beast, I think I'm going to go ahead and set up my babies for the day and then head back to bed. No sense in me being up as well! I have a huge list of chores that have gone wanting for far too long, so that will be my project for today!
th.gif
Anybody care to give me a hand in house cleaning? How the heck does a house get so dirty that we haven't been in all day long for over 2 weeks?
idunno.gif
I just don't get it!

So, y'all have a great Sunday, and I'll catch up with everyone later tonight.
hugs.gif
Later Taters!

On a side note....where the heck is Lady Hawk?!? What news of the progress of Joleta Bey's voyage to Cetawin? Is she on her way? Is she safe? Is she happy? Inquiring minds need to know these things! Cetawin! Report please!
hugs.gif

I know that Ladyhawk is frantically making prep for Joleta's arrival. I called her yesterday to tell her about Olivia's passing. I think I scared her a bit because she at first thought something happened to Suede. That will begin wailing and gnashing of teeth (oops, bad reference for our poor friend!) in Kentucky when that day comes.

Thanks everybody i'm pretty excited about the award and for my gift!!

LH we def. need an update on Joleta!

Speckled sorry for your loss

I've been deer hunting once and come home with pneumonia.

The idea of having a mounted head was my goal, and I enjoy eating the meat, but just haven't done it since. I use to squirrel hunt, but haven't done that in awhile either. I'm more of a fisherman.

Congrats Brandon!

Don't forget Joletabey got delayed a day or two....isn't she leaving today now? Not sure where she is coming from, but bet she has no idea what's in store for her! LoL

It was brrrrrrrrrcold here last night. I waited until almost 10am (9 with the change) to let the chickens out and everything was still frozen out there. The little bantam hen with the babies had moved under the brooder light instead of the opposite side. Too bad that brooder has fluorescent lights

Nice try little hen. I swapped the bulb out for a 100watt regular bulb, so that should help her keep everyone warm.

Her and her 6 babies are soooo cute. The black ones i believe are cochin mixes. The blue/gray one and at least 1 or 2 of the yellow ones appear pure cochin, Hopefully a blue and a splash. The other yellow one(s) are cochin mixes.

that big blue tank of a boy.

Joleta update - transporter is still in North Dakota waiting for his pickup who decided to forget about the pickup and is now an hour away and rushing there...so Joleta will get loaded around 6 pm tonight or if it is later, she will go on around 4 - 5 am and then head this way. He will call me tonight with a final decision depending on what time he gets there...so update later tonight on specifics.

I must say Tony was ticked off that the people forgot he was picking up their horse today which caused him several hours delay and sent him 400 miles out of the way...so he said if he cannot get jo loaded and travel at least 4 hours, he will load her in the morning so she is not on the trailer all night. Very unhappy man with his customer right now.

But I am running fencing between us and the Goblin next door so I will report in later.

Well rats, I have just missed EVERYTHING. Gotta go to church, but have to say at least one thing- Cyn I am SO sorry about Olivia, but SO happy her last days were full and joyous!
More later, friends, this has been a frantic day- the usual having to be in 12 places at once!

Wow Cyn that looks awesome!

Alright LH, what is the word on Ms Joletabey?

I gave up tonight and went ahead and moved the big leghornX broody mom plus baby into the top of the new double brooder unit, and the newly broody barred cochin into the bottom of the new double brooder unit. Tired of having to move them everyday. i need to go through the eggs and decide which 10 to give Ms BarredCochin.

You may say, Ms NellaBean isn't that big brooder unit still in your carport? Why yes, yes it is.
he.gif
I won't be able to get it moved for.....about 2 weeks at the earliest. So, i'm going to go ahead and use it up there now.

Miss Kathy! I have a new idea for brooder building.....my big problem with "open doors' is that they let all the heat out. So i am experimenting with the very inexpensive opaque covers you put on ceiling fluorescent light units. They are anywhere from $5-10 per panel and each panel is nearly 2'x4'. I think i will be able to cut a piece out that can slip right into the door opening, to help hold in the heat but not block outside light, as well as keep any random drafts off. We'll see!

This time change will royally screw my days over as i don't normally get home until around 6pm....so it will be dark pretty much by the time i get home now. So much for ever seeeing my chickens in the daylight on a weekday! Not until the time changes again, sigh.
