OK, OK, I give in. What kind of 'bator do I want? I hear Hovabator something something from some people and Genesis something something from others. I need one that can handle a room with inconsistent temperatures. We do not have AC.

Beth, I love my Genesis (Hovabator Genesis) it is pre-set but easy to adjust when you have too make adjustments. I will show it to you when you are here Thursday.

Oh and Good Morning!

Try cochins. Or silkies. LOL.

I use plain ol cheapy LG still airs. I have 2......as long as I remember to turn the eggs and have it set right to start with, they seem to do fine. however, the room I use for the incubating stays pretty decent tempwise.

My broodies do a much better job though! I haven't been broody free in MONTHS.

On a sidenote, when i let the chickens out in the morning, I open the coop and then walk to the garage to check on all the broodies and babies in there....then I go up the hill to the back deck (and steps!) and gate to the "front" and the chickens all follow me up there because I throw a big scoop of scratch out for them. One of my younger easter eggers has started flying up to the deck railing to watch me. Today she ran along ahead of my feet and darted out the gate. When I left the gate open to grab her, another hen ran through. It was a comedy of errors. None of them go anywhere, so its not a big deal. the gate is only 32" high or something like that....they often fly up to it and stand on the railing but don't "leave" the yard. Guess they realize they have it made on the inside of the fence.

All of my olive eggs are due this weekend! I set them 10/24.....so, they are due on the 14th/15th. However, I would expect them to probably start hatching friday or saturday. We'll see how these "new" broodies do! The new brooder unit is working well. I have the big leghornX mom and baby on the top level and my broody new barred cochin on the bottom level. The mom and baby are always waiting at the door in the morning and the angry broody is glaring at me from the nestbox. It's nice to have them up where I can see them easily.

I have the Genesis 1588 and this is my third hatch. Due 11/21 thereabouts. Last time humidity was all over the place as I didn't watch quite so intently and I suspect may not be as detrimental as the temp. Though the temp was up and down too. Got all but 3 and each of those was a different breed. 20/23. Not to bad in my estimation. First hatch was 6/0 for EE's and the others were shipped so I don't really think that matters.

Now I'm sure we all have a room that is even, to some degree. I would expect a room in the 70's can be found and not well trafficed. Heck even a closet would be ok, I would think. As long as no one keeps going in and out. I've got mine in the office and the computer is in here and as long as they keep the door closed it's ok. Depending on what thermometer you check it's between 70/80. Incu temp is 100.2 or thereabouts. Temp flucuations aren't as bad as I thought unless they are drastic IMO.

You just have to find the one that you like and work out the kinks. Just develope you own system the one that works for you.

Gotta friend who has a Hova bator 1602 and she does good with it. Me I didn't do so good, but then that was before I learned to keep it in a room with consistent temps.

I suppose you could put it in a large box so the drafts from traffic don't hit it

Wishing you happy hatching cuz once you get hooked your done for.

Good Morning y'all!

Can I just die? Now, please? UUUUGGGHH!!! Talk about a rotten night's sleep! If it wasn't Annie stomping in just past midnight, it was DH snoring all night long. Then the cat decides that 3:25 is the perfect time to be let outside, and she ain't taking NO for an answer. Finally fell into a fairly restive sleep around 4:00 AM. 5:30 AM rolls around and I start hearing Annie's alarm clock going off. And she just keeps hitting the snooze!

Common sense told me to just get up and call it a wash, but my body wouldn't move. I finally managed to fall out of bed around 6:30. I'm draggin' butt for sure this morning and I still have to let everyone out for the day, and then load up the car and head for Tacoma. If it weren't for the timing of the mountain pass conditions, I think I'd just crawl back in bed and shoot for tomorrow. But tomorrow's forecast is even worse than today's

Oh just stick a fork in my butt and turn me over, I think I'm DONE!!!

And on that note guys, I think I shall bid you all a fond farewell for the next few days, probably 5 at least. I will miss you all terribly!

Please, take care of each other, and keep the hugs flowing. I'll yack with y'all when I get back.
