Good Gawd, woman ..... if they had "normal" names, maybe I could remember.
What's wrong with John and Paul, Mary and Linda, etc....

The only one I can remember is Spike

the little buggar.

My chickens don't have names. I can tell them apart, for the most part.....I struggle with the black cochins and the mottled cochins. I just don't get to spend enough time with them to pick up the little details anymore. Actually, I lie. I have Stew #1, Stew #2 and Stew #4. I sold Stew #3! Ha ha ha......

Looking forward to doing lots of chicken chores this weekend. Time is ticking! I need to get some projects finished so I can move everything into the garage for winter and get the cars back into the carport so they don't freeze overnight.

I have been slowly "de-hoarding" my house. Okay, okay, my house is not a hoarder house. But I am not the tidest soul ever and I have a lot of animals taking up my time, so my house is messy. Sigh. I have been attacking it one project at a time. One project a day. Tuesday was the extra bedroom and closet. Wednesday was the coat closet. Last night was part of my closet and part of the laundry room. Tonight will be the rest of my closet. I have two big black trash bags full of clothes to donate to goodwill. I already donated 3 or 4 bags a few months ago. My wardrobe is teeny tiny and sad. I'd rather by tools than shoes! Which is why I am wearing sandals in 30 degree weather.

Obviously I am a genius.

Have an interesting offer. My brother in law's brother wants to move out here from California but needs somewhere to live for a month or two. They want to "rent" my extra bedroom for a couple hundred bucks. Haven't decided yes or no. I know him and have known him for years......my age.....but my house is not multi-person friendly. The only shower is in my master bath and I have lots of animals all over the place. If someone comes in "late" the dogs go crazy and wake me up. So we'll see. I could really use the money........and I am going out of town for a long weekend mid-January and could save the $150 in petsitting also. So I really could make about $300-500 having a roommate for a month or two. That would pay some bills...........

Is it worth the aggravation? Did I ever tell you what happened when my cousin lived with me a couple months? That was.....NOT FUN.

Nicole, that dog is a beauty and hugs to you for getting him! I want a decent farm dog, but we promised we would wait till Zeke passes on so we don't hurt his feelings. He is still bouncing around, his cheek has gotten a little bigger, but I am positive now we will still have him for several months -

Braclin, congrats on babies!

It is so GOOD to see so many pictures of Joleta- I almost feel like she is in MY backyard- neener, neener to the stallion - let's see him get over THAT fence! Ha!

Nella- try it. It's only for a month or two. But make sure this person is an animal lover and won't lose it living in your menagerie. Extra bucks are always good!

I would love to see a pic of Hedwig, too.

Oh boy, Nella, that is a tough decision to make. The extra money is always great, but the inconvenience is often aggravating. Hey, will he help ya with the chores? THAT is worth alot, to me!

Good luck with your decision. I know it is a tough one.

Hey, Brandon, I missed your post. Congratulations on the chickies!

Nella - not that we know each other that well - but i find your gut feeling is always the best thing to listen to and the correct answer for you!

Beth, glad to hear Zeke is doin well. Its tough when our beloved critters arent feelin well!

Nella, if you do, get it in writing! Make sure you cross every "T" and dot every "I"! Even when it's family, it's best to have everything spelled out in no uncertain terms, exactly what you expect of your tenant! And family or not, that's exactly what they are when money changes hands....even just a little bit of money.

A question, if you don't mind my asking, cuz you know I'm a nosey old wench: Does this sibling of your brother in law have a job already lined up in your area? Or is he in search of the entire package? Work/housing/transportation, etc. ? And if he doesn't already have a job lined up and waiting for him, what happens after two months and he's still not employed? Just playing Devil's Advocate here!

Oh, and in re-reading your post, you say "They want to "rent" my extra bedroom...." Meaning more than one person??? A wife perhaps? Making it THREE people in your home and only ONE bathroom? *shudder* Oh yeah! I'd have to think real long and hard on that one too!!!

OK, I'll get off of my soap box now.

Nicole, God Bless you for taking on Roscoe! By the looks of him and from what you've told us about his condition upon his arrival, he's one incredibly lucky dog! Sounds like the previous owners were completely clueless about meeting the needs of a Border Collie. They're so dang smart and so energetic! To not give one of these dogs a "job" to do is down right criminal. I'm so glad Roscoe is now on your farm where he can fulfill the objective of his breeding! To herd, to work livestock!

Lucky Dog! Lucky Dog!!

I'd give my eyeteeth to have a BC, but it will have to wait until after Jasper passes. He's too accustomed to being an only dog. Heck, he gets pathetic if I pay more attention to the cat than him!

Crazy old mutt! He's 10 now. His mother lived to the age of 12, so who knows. I'm really hoping he has at least 2 or 3 more years with us yet. He's such a lover.

Brandon, congrats on the newly hatched fuzzy butts!

Pictures? Please??? I could use a good infusion of chicky pictures today!!

Alright! Time to get my lazy carcass up and taking care of the menagerie this morning. Finally got myself a half way decent night's sleep last night. It's amazing what that can do for a body! Y'all bundle up, stay warm, stay safe, and don't forget to hug your chickens!

Trying to quilt. Chickens were scared to death this morning--wouldn't come out when the doors were opened. Some were growling and cackling in a nervous way. Never did find out what spooked them all, but probably hawk activity.

Panda refuses to leave Nugget alone. Nuggs tries to settle on a nest. Panda comes in, trying to find a place to lay her egg, and even though Nugget is not on the nest Panda usually occupies, Panda simply must be in whatever nest Nugget wants to sit in. Poor Nugget is so low on the totem pole, she usually capitulates when Panda gets mean and starts pounding her on the head. Panda should be in the regular flock, not the old ladies' flock, but she keeps trying to find a way back to this one every time I put her in with Isaac and most of the girls.

Speaking of hawk activity........I admit I haven't counted chickens lately, but I also haven't found any feather piles or noticed anyone outright missing.....ever since I put up those scarecrows! LOL. That just cracks me up. This weekend is the rooster rearrange........extra boys will be caught and moved to the rooster pen. Hoping they won't all fight to the death, but no guarantees. If they do, I'm going to go buy a hatchet LOL. Pretty sure I have an extra tree stump out back somewhere.

More info on the possible roommate: It would be just him.........when I say "they" I mean more that family as his brother is the one who called me and I will guess his parents will be paying for it. Not all "young people" can be as awesome and responsible as me

He would not be helping out with any animal chores, other than maybe letting the dogs out to pee here and there. I would require him to petsit for me the weekend I go out of town if he is living with me then, though. He has a bad back and has already had at least 1 surgery on it, so there would be no heaving lifting help or anything like that.

More than anything it would be the inconvenience of it all. However, I admit, when I moved out here 3 years ago, I lived with my sister and her hubby for about 5 months before I bought my own place. Now that they have a baby in the house, they don't want another person living there, which I understand. So I almost feel obligated to "return the favor" by letting him stay with me....since they let me stay with them.

Eh......we'll see. I wonder how my boyfriend would feel about having a guy my own age living with me, LOL. Haven't mentioned it yet. Of course, as this would simply be a moneymaking excursion, he can go ahead and send me $350 if he wants to fuss about it. Ha.

[also, eta]

I do have 2 bathrooms......but only 1 has a shower/bath. The extra bathroom is across from the extra bedroom, next door to the laundry room. It has a toilet and sink!

There would be some definite rules to living here. Don't complain about the animals. Don't bring anyone over. Don't let the cat out. Wash your dishes. Let the dogs out to pee before you leave. Ha ha.
