Dang Nella! Sorry you lost three. It always seem to hurt so much more when they're little and hold such promise in their tiny bodies. One always wonders what they would have grown up to be like had they lived. Maybe mama knew something about these three that we could never sense. It happens. I'll keep things crossed for the remaining chicks to continue to flourish and grow.
Kathy, yes! I got your message. Thanks for the link. I think I read that a couple of months ago. I think you may have even given me the link, or you posted it in here someplace. I remember seeing it before at any rate. And still fascinating. Perhaps even more so, now that I have one of those little cuties!
Did you notice the one little hen that was nearly the spit and image of our little Maggie? Now I understand why she's walking around in these sub zero temperatures like it ain't no big thing! She was "designed" by nature for this!
If her sisters ever get to pining away for her company, you're always welcome to send them up here!
And you know you're going to need the extra room for all of those breeding projects of yours!
Cetawin, I'm glad to hear that your sister will be seen by Mayo much sooner than was originally scheduled. It's always so frustrating and frightening when someone you love is sick and has to wait such a long time to be seen by a specialist. I'll most certainly keep you both in my prayers that the folks at Mayo can make a definitive diagnosis and initiate treatment ASAP!
Please keep us posted as details are known.
Managed to get to town today to pick up the rest of the feed that I had wanted to buy last Sunday, but that they were out of at that time. I love my local feed store. I know one of the employees as she's a neighbor of mine so to speak. [just on the other side of I-90 and less than 2 miles from us] And I've almost always been able to find what I need there. If they don't stock it, most of the time they can special order it for me. Their prices are fair and in line with those of larger feed stores in Spokane. [larger population centers usually mean lower prices] And that's not doing too bad for a small town feed store!
But today kind of rankled me a bit. I spent over $80 for various feeds and supplies this afternoon. And what does Sue hand me after I'm done running my handy dandy debit card through the reader to pay my tab? An invitation coupon for this coming Monday night for their annual "Friends and Family Night" sale! 15% off your entire purchase and an additional 25% off all clearance items!
Oh REALLY!?!?! Well, Gee! Thanks Sue! Why didn't you tell me of this BEFORE I bought all this junk?!?!?
Thanks a peach sweetheart!
At least, that's what I would have liked to have said. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! With friends like that, who the heck needs enemies?
And it really rankles when I think of how many years I've been going to them almost exclusively. I don't even want to think of the thousands of dollars we have literally spent in that place! Would it have killed her to say to me when I walked in, "Hey Amy, next Monday we're having a pretty good sale. If anything on your list can wait, take this coupon and come back and see us on Monday. It'll save ya a few bucks"
I still love Sue to pieces. She's a heck of a nice lady. She can't help it if that's the store policy. But, needless to say, I won't be going to the sale. I've already bought everything I need for the next 6 weeks!
I even got one of the last two bags of DE!
Now my babies can have a proper dust bath. Probably right after I clean the coop and build the containment frame to hold the DE in one corner of the scratch yard. Ya know, that's the one drawback to picking up all of those goodies from the feed store. Now I have a weeks worth of work ahead of my that I was able to put off otherwise!
