Kathy, don't you dare run and hide. Come out from under that chair dear lady and give me a hug!

I greatly appreciate the effort you went to, to find me that information. I'm sure it will be quite useful for future reference. Especially for a homeopathic or holistic approach to treatments.

I'm just so very relieved to think that Chief, in all likelihood, has simple pneumonia. The symptoms, after discussing them with Cetawin, all fit. It just has to be pneumonia! Just has to be!

And speaking of the little goober. HAA! Talk about one spoiled rotten boy!
love.gif
He's still out here in the pump house with me, and will be until I am completely sure that he is totally over this. In the mean time, he's just eating up all of the attention and loving I'm giving him. Not to mention the yummy breakfast of scrambled egg, yogurt and tuna that he ate ALL of, over the course of the day. He's such a lover. When he got the yogurt all over his wattles, he was pretty good about letting me clean him up. Just enough argument out of him for me to know that he's still got a good amount of P&V in him, but that he's willing to cooperate!

Tomorrow I'm going into town to pick up the Tylan 50 that Cetawin recommended. It's the same thing that she used on Lance and Ebony and they were over their bout with the pneumonia in about a week? Was that what you said Cetawin? About a week? See? There goes my memory already!

I would have picked it up today, but everything in Cheney is closed on account of the holiday. Talk about bad timing! I just hope and pray that they have it at Del's. We don't have a single actual TSC in all of Washington state, but Del's is a subsidiary of them, so everything that TSC carries, pretty much Del's carries too. And what a fitting name, eh? Del's!

The girls looked so forlorn this evening without Chief. Especially poor little Maggie girl. I can tell she misses him terribly already. She and her two girls were snuggled up in the far left corner of the top shelf tonight, with their backs turned to the rest of the flock. I can't loose Chief. I just can't. Maggie and I would both be totally devastated! So would the rest of the flock, but they'd get over it much faster than Maggie and I would.

But, it's not going to come to that! I simply will NOT give that horrible thought any room in my mind. He's going to be just fine! Just as soon as I can start treating him.

I greatly appreciate all of the warm thoughts you all have had for my Chief. Please, if it's not too much trouble, keep those good thoughts coming. He is so very special to me!

No need to hide Kathy...just ONE of those individuals in that thread really got under my skin...such great advise and diagnosis with no freaking clue! grrrrrrrrr

Okay heads up everyone...I found out about this tonight and it has alarmed the tar out of me. I removed stuff in my name, my husband's and know of one of our moderators/administrators who picked it up on my facebook and went to find stuff in her name too. Major privacy issue and disclosure of personal information you most likely do not want out there...check it out for yourselves. Here is my post:

FYI-There's a site called spokeo.com that's a new online USA phone book with your personal info:everything from pics you've posted on FB or web, your credit score, home value and pix, income, age, children, etc. Remove yourself by searching for your name, copy the URL of your page, then go to the bottom right corner of ...the page, click the Privacy button to remove yourself.

I removed stuff in my name, my husband's and I know several other people who have found their ifnormation there, including one of our moderators/administrators. Check it out.

Here is the Snopes.com confirmation of this

Also...Amy. Keep the Tylan around, especially with the temps you are getting this winter...watch Chief for signs of worsening. If he does have something in his throat, he will not be able to eat much and you will see a change there.

My dominigue had something stuck in her throat once and brainstorming with Cyn helped me...I fed her olive oil by eye dropper and syringe and made a soupy mash food for her until she worked it on out herself.

So...keep all that in mind...but do try and listen to his lungs up close and personal...see what you hear. Remember...1/2 cc 1X day for no more than 7 days on the Tylan 50. Oral or injected.

Yes they were over it in a week...the vet said to look for signs of improvement in 3 - 4 days or I was to bring them back. They were much better by day 4 of the Tylan...Lance's raspy gurgling that I was hearing just standing in the room had gone to very mild and I had to listen to his lungs to hear it...by Day 8 there was nothing...no sounds at all from either of them. Vet gave them clean bill of health and he did not hear anything either.

LH and I brainstormed and determined that her Lancelot had pneumonia and it stemmed from no symptoms prior to him was caught in a pouring cold rain he couldn't get out of one day, got extremely chilled, then his noisy breathing started. The circumstance was what determined what he had and the vet concurred with that and now he's fine. I will definitely cull for contagious respiratory illness, however, pneumonia is something that is confined to that one bird and antibiotics will do it good and I would give them for pneumonia. That is the one exception to my rule, but I'd have to be 99.9% sure that's what it was and not something the rest of the flock could contract.

They do get things stuck in their throat. My Nora did once, though we didn't know what it was at the time, and started wheezing like air escaping a balloon. She had just started back laying after a break and had strained to lay her first post-molt egg. I put her in the house in the brooder and called Pine Grove. William, after listening to her over the phone, thought it was either a ruptured air sac or she had something caught in her windpipe/throat. We syringed oil down her throat in case it would help an object pass and by the morning, she was fine and throwing herself against the top of the brooder, trying to get out. I wouldn't have thought of an air sac rupture if William hadn't mentioned it, but in the future, it will be in my head if that happens again. They do all sorts of things to themselves, I tell ya!

Cyn that was the problem I had with the other thread...an infectious respiratory thing and no one is telling her to cull the danged bird or advising her what to do and not do as far as flock and biosecurity...pfffttttt

I would have hated to cull Lancelot or Ebony BUT had it not been phneumonia and had been a respiratory illness/disease, they both would have been culled, with me crying before, during and after.

PLEASE STOP with the chicks. I just determined not to hatch any more for a while and your making it hard.

Seriously let me jump in and say , I just sold some EE chicks to a guy from WPA and he has never heard of BYC. I can't find the PA post but Good garden o' peas don't enough of us have BYC bumperstickers on our vehicles? I know there are other forums but once I got here I didn't need no other forum.

I kinda feel bad but I didn't realize he was here cuz he couldn't find EE's where he is. Me I'd drive just to get new blood but not .................................Well now that I think of it I drove 6 for my Dels and 5 for the CM's so yeah I guess it makes sense for him to drive this far. Of course that was round trip.

Lord have mercy! Don't people post to CL? Around here there are alot of chicken people. (just thinking out loud)

Well anyhow if your from PA get the word out. Anyone here got business cards for your chickens. I'm waiting on mine.

Kathy I don't care what color it is if it's a chick, anything but a Silkie of course, its cute. "My momma always said chicks is like a box of chocolates, ya never know what ya gonna get."

Ok rant over.

Good morning y'all!

Cetawin, I've listened several times to Chief and I'm convinced that it is indeed pneumonia. And that we've caught it very early! There is no, I repeat, NO gurgling in his back or chest. That's a good thing, right?

I'm just sitting here, waiting for things to warm up just a little before I let everyone out for the morning, as well as waiting for Del's to open. It being a Sunday, and following a holiday, I'm sure they're in no hurry to open their doors!
barnie.gif
But, I'm going to call before I go. If they don't have Tylan 50, there's no sense wasting my time in going there.

I'll have to track it down in Spokane if that's the case. Just keep your fingers crossed that I can get it in Cheney. I really worry about driving all the way into Spokane with the roads in the condition that they are. But this is for Chief, and so I would crawl across broken glass if that's what it takes!
love.gif
Wish me luck!

OK, I suppose this is about as warm as we're likely to get this morning [currently 12F out there] so I might as well go get everyone going for the day. Last night was the first time in nearly a week that we didn't dip down into the minus range of the thermometer. That's a good thing. Hopefully the worst of this cold snap is over.

Y'all have a great day. Stay warm, stay safe, and I'll catch up with ya tonight.

Sure thing! They are suppose to have another big one on February 5th I think. We were there for like 6hrs and they hadnt even got through half of the stuff. I asked one of the guys to put up the crock waterer but it didnt get put up,lol. Got to get a clip for the pistol before I can try it out.

LH thanks about the info for that website. I was all over it, lol. Its crazy to think that someone can just throw all our info out there for the world to see.

Oh and Mom tells me yesterday that she wants her and I to travel to Ireland in May.

I've always wanted to go. She says now you got plenty of time to get a passport. So we will just have to wait and see.

Just sold 14 birds. I am now down to 51! Plus the chicks in the garage, but they totally don't count yet. I have another 15 for sale....or rather, 4 roosters to give away, a pair of bantam mottled cochins for sale, a quad of large fowl blue/splash cochins for sale, 2 layers (1 splash andalusian, 1 RIR) and my 3 blue brahma project pullets.

Have sold approximately 100 birds in the last 4-5 months. Ridiculous!
