Kathy...that is a useful link but I have major problems with using it as an example or required reading....let me explain...
First...the relative "newbie" giveing such hardcore diagnosis and instruction...bugs the crap out of me. every bird that gets sick is not a Myco issue...respiratory or not
Secondly, bird was never seen by a vet but one was consulted...and a psuedo diagnosis given and the OP was advised bird would be a carrier...
Third...no one advised her to cull the bird or explained that her flock would have to be closed....or told her that she needed to fully disclose the condition to potential visitors, buyers etc...
and
Fourth no one discussed biosecurity with her...
All of this leads to the OP assuming her bird is contagious carrier, the OP lacking in biosecurity understanding or an understanding of closing a flock...stuff like this is what makes illnesses run rampant through an area and get spread....no one verifies the disease/illness with a vet....they are not informed about biosecurity and not selling their birds and wham...sick birds are being dispersed to other flocks.
Makes me sick!
And for the record...I have had hens blow bubbles from their nares/nostrils because of getting water up their nose...that does not mean I am going to have an infected flock, it means I have more than one silly hen in flock. Cannonball is forever trying to snorkel in water, dunked her whole head
Also for the record...I called Amy today and talked to her about Chief because the symptoms she stated reminded me of my Lancelot and Ebony...who were isolated a couple months ago and taken to the vet....they had caught phneumonia from getting wet and cold...I shared the information with her about them, the vet's instructions and the medication given.
