Cyn, I'm so glad that you finally fessed up. She was a very poofy chick, too!

Took pics of Suede's girls today, plus the traffic jam in the main flock nestboxes.

Caught Dusty just getting out of the dust hole, but here you can see the lacing in her feathers, which is better than Smoky's, though Smoky is a larger hen.

Cyn....you must have had better weather there than we did here. NO SUN all day.....dreary, misty, cold, windy all day long.

I need a good sunny day to clean out coops. I'm like Kathy, I can't do the whole "deep litter" thing. Everything needs a good cleanin' out and replacement about once a month

Found one of my "hathcery" type Col Rocks tonight outside at roosting time. Seems she has an eye infection of some sort, poor girl. One egg/area around it is swollen terribly. Used terramycin and placed her in a coop by herself. Hoping she recovers quickly.....she is in mid-moult and doesn't look too good at all. I hope its more her lack of feathers than anything else.

BTW - I found a lady about 90 miles form me who has the Paul Hardy lines of BRs and White Rocks....gonna try to get some of both. I've tried to reach Paul himself as he is actually closer, but I can't get a return call.

Hope everyone is well. My insurance "trauma" continues, but I think we'll just be picking up a new policy and moving forward.

Cyn - Suede's girls sure look nice. I still REALLY REALLY like the look of a "blue" chicken. After all my Col Rock hatches this Spring, I'm still planning to see if I can get a "blue" Col Rock

Have a great evening.....might not be here over the weekend. Taking Landon rabbit hunting after school tomorrow for the weekend

Snow is here.....booooo....my parents just called me freaking out about me driving to Ohio in "bad weather". They were relieved to find out that I do own a braincell. Actually 2. and I rub them together sometimes.

Here's to hoping I get "snowed in" tomorrow and have to work from home!

Yard full o' rocks :

Scott,
I am researching and collecting notes on how to breed those Barreds. The old books and notes are fabulous. I also read that Paul hardy has great stock. Good luck!

By the way, did you know there used to be a Rosecomb Barred Rock? I wonder if there are any still around.....

Sounds just like a Dominique to me, minus the other small differences?

Cyn! Those are great pictures- glad everyone's well. I can not BELIEVE that those D'Uccle chicks are already over 5 weeks old!

Now... I am having my Thursday night 30 Rock fix. Can no longer live without laughing for the next half hour!

Goodbye until tomorrow afternoon. I MIGHT just get to setting up my page for y'all.

Kathy,
there is a great quote in one of the old poultry books I bought at Nationals that is so old it described BR as a new breed and wondered whether they would amount to anything. I will have to look it up for you, I just about died laughing when I read it. It was a Brit publication, so they were having their doubts about them amounting to anything.

Cetawin, I will try to call you tomorrow!!!!! I was out tromping around while the weather was decent, then I was forced to be social in the evening! How it the Diva?

Cyn, I will try to get some pics of Ultrasuede and his girls, plus Boo and Ivan and Belle, all Suede's grandkids if the weather holds tomorrow- there is a definite family resemblance going on! And Boo and Ivan have turned into rather incredible looking boys- VERY handsome. You will be proud!

The Diva is testy... cabin fever. She was pushing Cheyenne and I around when we were in the stall. She wants to go walking but it is not safe enough for a leisure stroll ... soon. She meets her new vet on the 31st and gets her teeth checked...maybe floated depends on how bad they are and I am setting her farrier appointment for her trim. I just went outside and spent some time with her before putting on my jammies. While she gets tons of attention, she feels she needs more of course. LOL
