Amy, I'm so sorry about Lisette! It's awful to feel helpless to relieve their suffering other than sending them to the other side.



Laura, what a very cheerful quilt! I love purple and yellow together. I'm currently quilting my Tennessee Waltz quilt and it's going slow. When my head starts threatening to hurt, I lay it down rather than push through. That one will be offered for sale on BYC when it's finished. I think it's going to look really nice, personally, even with all the small flaws.

I have a fairly large barn - doors- closeable etc. I have picked extra insulation up high in spots where i see they might be getting in. They are becoming annoyingly numerous in there. Any suggestions how to get them out ? Experience in this ? Etc? Pesty lil buggers and they have taken to eating the chickens feed ---grrrrrr

Well, I cracked open another each of Smoky and Dusty's eggs, had my DH also look at them, and they both appear fertile. Why they wouldn't develop is a mystery. All I can do is try again. And I'll add Meg's in there, too. Kathy and Gloria Jean both have her daughters so she does produce girls on occasion, just never has at my house.

Brandon, I thought of that, but usually, the eggs are collected before they become really cold. I have three more Smoky eggs and two Dusty eggs and will set those later today. I already have a staggered hatch going and will have to break out the second Hova as a hatcher anyway. I'll also set one of Ellie's eggs, my best Delaware hen, because she seems to produce mostly pullets--Tasha is her daughter. If Dusty lays today, I'll add that one, too. Also, when we get a chance, I'll trim some butt fluff, but don't want to do too much since it's very cold-don't think Suede and the Suede-ettes will appreciate cold bums, LOL. We're expecting another round of snow tonight, darn it.

Thank you so much everyone for your words of comfort and sympathy at the loss of our sweet little Lisette. I say "our" because in my mind, she will always belong to both Kathy and Mike, and myself. She was such a precious little soul. I'm so thankful that I still have her mother and sister. I love them so dearly, and it shows in how much of their shenanigans that they actually get away with!

Folks, if you ever have the chance to add one or more of Kathy's birds to your flock, DO IT! Don't think twice about it. JUST DO IT! Hers are so friendly, sweet and charming.

Thank you again for all of your kind words and supportive PM's. It means a great deal to me, to know that there are others out there that feel the same way.

The only non lethal methods of control I can recommend is to make it impossible for them to enter your barn, and thereby interact with your chickens. Check every nook and cranny that they might even remotely gain access through, and block it off! You might want to take a nice big cup of coffee out to the barn, along with a warm snugly blanket, and just sit and watch to see where they're getting in at. Then mark that spot in your mind and block it off at your earliest convenience.

I think I'd rather have an infestation of mice than these pesky little birds!

I cling to the thought that when the weather gets better, hopefully, they'll return to their wild ways and abandon their occupancy of my covered run and storage area. But it will be just my luck that they're so comfortable and accustomed to my presence now that they'll never leave!

I WANT THEM GONE!!!!
