Ooooh!! I think that's an awesome idea Brandon! Let's all post pictures of our flocks taken in the spring and summer months, when they were much warmer and much happier!

*Sigh* Now that feels a little bit better. Patience friends. Summer will get here, by and by.................

Good morning friends!

Serrin, so sorry to hear about your girl

At least that little troublemaker had a great little life causing trouble up there. You know she is up in chicken heaven now, just jumping from pen to pen and antagonizing all the boys as she strutts around

I spent some time this morning out redoing the compost pile area. The temporary pen I put up yesterday just was not sufficient. So I hauled down some wood and my good ol fence panels that were sitting around collecting dust and wha-la! Instant secure compost area. I have it all screwed together except for the fence panel in front. It is just zip tied in place, so whenever I need it I can just cut the zipties and pull it off.

Also cleaned up some things out in the garage, rearranged some stuff here and there......now I'm back on the couch under my blanket thinking about taking a nap.

And for a fun springtime photo

Well, my current flock was pretty young in the Summer, and my pics are blurry, but here goes.

OK, I hope nobody takes offense to this suggestion. It may sound cruel, but so is disease transmitted by a non indigenous species! Frankly, I have no love of nor patience with STARLINGS! I'd love to throttle the beejeebers out of the fidiot that thought it was a splendid idea to introduce them to this continent from Europe!

Knox, if you have the room in your barn to set up a large cage, and then isolate it such that your chickens cannot gain access to it, do so now! Place a pan of feed in it to attract the Starling's into it. Once you have a cage full of them, slam the door shut and remove them from the barn. Now, here comes the part that some may consider cruel.........

....... Place the cage full of Starlings into a 55 gallon drum filled with water and drown the buggers out!

If anyone wants to rip me a new *unprintable*, feel free to do so. It won't change my opinion nor sentiments on Starlings. These things are an invasive and deleterious species and should be eradicated from all of North America! As for my methods of disposal of them, would you prefer gassing? How about poisoning? Unless a person has seen the torturous death that involves, they have no idea of how brutal either of those methods can be. Trust me, drowning is far more merciful!

I hope you can get rid of them easily and safely Knox. You could also possibly contact your local pest management agency for methods of eradication. If your problem is large enough, they may even be willing to come out and take care of it for you, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Good luck and let me know how you do.

Hello Everyone!

Amy. so sorry about Lisette! What a sweet girl!

Opened February's issue of Sunset magazine this morning and just about spilled my coffee. Are those Delawares on pages 15 and 35? Has Sdwd gone national? Go Deli's!!!!

Welcome, peepacheep.

I am switching feeds either today or tomorrow. I guess I read my protein intake on my feed wrong- I thought it was 18%. It's 16%. GAH! I'm not going to the same feed store anymore. I am friends with the owner and all of the employees and will just visit often, help out with presentations and shows, buy occasional chicks and supplies, but no more feed. I'm switching to Layena crumbles, because that's the easiest thing I can get. The girls have oyster shell and Zucchini is back to laying, but she laid one of THESE eggs for the third time.

ETA: Just found that Layena is also 16%. Ugh! I can not find a feed near me. I'll mix in chicken, I guess.... and cracked corn, and birdseed... LH, what's your feed recipe again?
