Brandon,
The Blue Laced Red Wyandottes...... YES, that black one is one, too. See, the "blue" works light all blue rules. You can get blue, black, and splash. I have blue and black, but no splash.

Thanks Kathy, thats good to know, because I had no clue. Thought maybe I had got a mix up.

Bite your tongue Mr. Tim!!

You know darn well we're getting there, day by day. Oh ye of little faith! Don't you know that all of these other birds are surrogates to tide us over until the day comes when the Delaware numbers are large enough to conquer the world?? Sheesh! Tim, you of all people, I should not have to explain this too!

OK, the moment y'all have been waiting for.....[drum roll please].....

Just look at this sweet little mama-to-be face!

That silly little girl kept me up way past my bedtime last night, just watching her get herself all settled in and everything just the way she wanted it. And now she's pretty much back to her old self. She only gives me a little warning growl when I reach in to pet her, for which my hand is very grateful!

Now it becomes a waiting game. I'll have a much better idea after tonight when I candle one last time. At least I hope it's the last time I need too.

Hopefully, at some point today, I'll get the chance to take some pictures of the rest of the gang. Sure wish I'd had my camera on me this morning when I brought them out some special treats. Oatmeal, yogurt, and pancakes smothered in syrup! Talk about a feeding frenzy! And not a clean face in the whole flock after they got done. Little gluttons!

Oh Amy how cute. Sweet face for such a vicious broody! I have some competition in the acting world.

Speaking of, I just got back from our second show. It was just wonderful... No mistakes accept that a bird cage flew out of the main character's hand and landed in the audience.

Brandon, nice to see some pics from you! They look great. And Cyn, woah... They have grown since I saw them!

It's sunny outside and I just put the first layer of playsand in the run... Hmm... I don't really like it. I think I'll go to home depot tomorrow and get another kind.

Here it is...

And the kind I want... Do you know what it's called? Pea gravel? Lol.

Where is Nella today? She must be outside working construction. I can hardly wait to see what she does!

Something is wrong with my computer. I can hardly load any pages. And .... when I start typing, it just stops and I have to click on the page I am on again to resume typing.

Nick! I know just what to do with that bit of hardware cloth you found, and about a couple hundred feet more of it if you can get your hands on it cheap! See that gap between the bottom of the fence and the ground? Yup. That gap! You're gonna need to button that up and make it secure before you can ever let those precious Del's out there to free range. Trust me, they can get through just about any opening big enough to allow their head and shoulders through. Later down the road, it won't be as much of a concern, but while they're young and small yet, you really have to look for every hole in the fence line, because believe me, they'll be looking too!

It looks to me like your back yard is largely paved over. Is that the case? I see black top and brick all over the place. Is the only place with bare ground in the areas around the trees and such? Guess where your chickens are going to spend the vast majority of their free range time!??! Uhh huuu! Under the trees and anywhere else they can find open dirt to scratch in.

By the way, that playground sand is exactly what you want! It will provide excellent drainage when the spring rains come. And when summer comes, and it's hotter than the hubs of H*ll, you can wet the sand down with a garden hose and provide your chickens a great area to cool off in. Remember your basic physics boy! Evaporation is an excellent way to create a cooling effect. Your chickens will really appreciate that come summer. Now, having said that, you might also want to provide them an area with several bags of the pea gravel over it. They could pick among that for their crop stones.

Though mine always seem to go for the smaller sand type of soils where ever they can find it.

Looks like you really have your work cut out for ya Nick, what with all of those leaves all over the place. Let your chickens give you a hand with that. They love scratching up leaves!
lol.png
How about posting a few pictures with as wide angle view as you can get so that we can have a better feel for the lay of the land. One or two of us might have some really good suggestions on how to get the most out of your small space.

Brandon, I'm loving your BLRW's! Beautiful girls!! Me wants! Me wants!! Me wants my precioussssssssssssss!!

Good thing I'm not there in person to see them. I'd make a heck of a mess from drooling all over them!!

Thanks for the kind comments on GeeGee and her new brooder guys!
hugs.gif
I think I know the number one feature of it that I like the most. The peace of mind and load off of my shoulders that comes from knowing that GeeGee is safe and no longer has to stress out over one of the pushier girls making a nuisance of herself! She's ten times happier now and I'm 100% happier!!

Evening all....back from the show. It was fun, but oddly there were a VERY few large fowl birds at this show. To give you an idea of the number I took exactly 0 pix.

There were BANTAMS galore....OEs, Dutch, Seabrights (really neat looking too), Modern, D'Anver (no porcelains though Cyn), D'Uccles....and on and on.

Apparently this USED to be the Carpet Capitol BANTAM show and LF are just now getting started again. In the LF category heres's what I saw so you have some idea:

1 "chicken"/cockerel labeled Barred Rock that actually was a cross bred "mutt" with feathered legs
NO other Plymouth rocks of any flavor
NO Delawares
NO New Hampshires
A "couple" of RIRs, all production type
NO Orps (notes on each cage had them DQ'd for some reason or another)
NO Cochins
NO Wyandottes (only bantams)

I guess I was a little disappointed as I went to look at BIG BIRDS....but it was still neat to see.

I think Landon and I will go to the show in Newnan in a few weeks and check it out

Cyn - I did meet a guy who raises the Porcelain D'Anvers and he is going to send me his contact info....he is an APA/ABA judge from Ohio

Off to the in-laws for fried fish tonight...stay warm y'all
