Hmmmmmm.....I need nothing from the show! I am actually, even after all my downsizing, considering adding another hen to my bantam cochin flock. i have 4 black mottled girls, 1 blue mottled girl and a black mottled boy. There is a blue mottle girl for sale near here. I'm considering it!

Kathy, I hope your girl does better! Poor chickens...so hard to tell what is going on with them.

Just got back from opening night! Omg it was amazing!!! I had a blast. So thrilled! It was absolutely Perfect, besides the fact that my knee got crushed by a wood box, but that's another story!

We have two more performances tomorrow and one Sunday.

Kathy... I am very sorry to hear about your dellie girl! Hoping shes better soon, too.

We did it! We got 'er done! The new brooder/hospital hutch is all built and in place in the pump house and GeeGee is happily ensconced within! I didn't take any pictures of her in it yet. I wanted her to have some quiet time and get settled in on her own without harassing her with camera flashes going off in her face every 30 seconds!

So, here's a couple of pics of the brooder/hospital hutch.

With the top and bottom door open:

I had some self adhesive vinyl tiles left over from when I did the floor of the big travel trailer a few years ago. They worked just perfect for the floor of each level, and I had just enough. Future cleanings should be a breeze!

Denny and I constantly go to auctions and pick up boxes of all kinds of junk. All of the hardware in this hutch, with the exception of the hardware cloth on the doors and part of the top, came from boxes of junk we pick up real cheap at auction. I just knew if we held on to some of this crap long enough, it would eventually come in handy!

See the nice shiny hinges? Yup! Auction goodies!

And here it is, all ready for GeeGee and her eggs. Doesn't this look cozy?
001-13.jpg

Transferring her took all of about 2 minutes. Just long enough to gather up her eggs, stuff them in my coat pocket, pick her up and dash out the door. I swear those eggs didn't drop so much as one tenth of a degree! Now she's having a ball in there, picking bits of shavings and tossing them over her back, placing others neatly where she wants them, preening her feathers........Before, she would sit out in the coop on her nest, all hunched up and giving everyone the stink eye if they even so much as looked in her direction. And the whole time, she would sit as still as a rock. I've not seen this much activity out of her in nearly 3 weeks now!
lol.png

I'll candle her eggs tomorrow night, after she's had a full 24 hours to completely settle in. She looks so relaxed now as it is, but I don't want to push my luck.

It's so nice to have a chicken back in the pump house with me. They're always such good company!

Me too Kathy!

Me too!!! When I candled her eggs the other day, two were definitely alive and kicking. Tonight, when I gathered up GeeGee and her eggs for the quick trip to the pump house, guess what I discovered? That fifth missing egg!!

I'm sure it's probably no good, but I'll know for sure tomorrow night when I candle.

I guess it must have been buried under the shavings after all. And it was way at the back of the nest where I couldn't see each time I lifted GeeGee up to inspect and make sure that none of the other girls were sneaking more eggs in under her. So, who knows? If it was under her the whole time, it may still be perfectly good. That would be so awesome. She'd have three chicks then, instead of just two.

But two is good! I know this one little hen that had the most marvelous twin daughters ya know....

Please keep your fingers crossed for GeeGee. It's her first time and I really want her to succeed!

More pictures tomorrow, after she's had a good 24 hours to settle in without any more harassment from me!

OK, I think that's about it for me. That bed of mine is sounding more and more attractive all the time, and we have a huge list of errands to run tomorrow.

to all, and to all, GOOD NIGHT!!!!

Haha... I sneezed on my elbow.

I want to show you guys what my yard looks like. I haven't exactly measured it yet. It's been raining all week and is disgusting! I scrubbed the feeder and waterer, raked the run a little, moved the feeder to a dry space, changed the bedding and collected eggs. It some pics when I was done. Tomorrow the whole run will become sand... We will see how that goes!

The coop today (yes, this was going to be the bantam coop)

The eggs I collected... Amelia was laying when I got these. I think the one in the middle could be a double yolker from Lily. Will update on that.
