They were all shipped yesterday so I expect I'll get most or all of the boxes of eggs tomorrow. I should have plenty of chicks from which to choose my "up-and-comers".
Well what color do you call that silkie chick in the first picture? The chick on the left, in the bowl. I believe the mama is buff and the sire could be splash or blue.

Don't know what color it will grow into Kathy, but for now I'd call that a champagne color. Cute little dickens, ain't it?
Anybody want a free little cockerel? I'll warn ya, he's a real little toe rag! And if he doesn't straighten up and start treating his little sis with a bit more kindness and tenderness, I'm gonna let CB, Brutus and Red teach him some manners! Little creep keeps picking on poor Lil Bit, is constantly jumping up on his mama's back, kicks the food all over the place,,,,,.
He's really becoming a thorn in my side and that of his little sister's! But mama insists on protecting him every time I try to reprimand him for being such a little Troll! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!
Nick I am sorry about Luna...it is so sad and I hate to put a chick down...it breaks my heart. Why was there so much blood if I may ask? What method did you use? For future reference...I get a ziploc baggie and a pair of very sharp shears, pruning shears if it is a bigger chick, and hold the baby over the bag and one snip to remove the head. There is hardly any blood and there is no twitching and such. Ether works well too if the chick is weak...they just go to sleep.
Kathy those are cute babies... I think you could call that one little silkie a "Bubalue" hehehehe a Buff Blue.
Cyn, kiss Adonis for me. Hera came inside today to do a bit of TV watching and napping on the ottoman. She also watched Cheyenne play a video game. Spoiled HUGE girl. My gosh she is a biggun.
Update on the chicken thieves.....my neighbors down past me saw a red SUV coming up towards their place on their cameras...so she went outside with her shotgun and they were parked near the fence where her stallion is. She shot at the SUV and they ran for it so she unloded the other barrel into the rear quarter panel and I heard the shots and ran outside with my carbine and they were just reaching my property line...so as they approached I raised the rifle and waiting for them to get even with me. I unloaded five rounds at the rear and the rear tires. Those two guys must have thought they had just driven into hell.
So my neighbor came down in her car and asked if it was me shooting and I said "Yes, I responded to your shotgun". LOL She went after them in her car but came back about 20 minutes later having not found them. We have no idea if they went right or left when they hit the end of our road.
So...let's see if the suckers come back for more. I plan on staying up all night watching my barn and coop. I did a little test this evening with Joleta. I sent a friend down to the barn after dark wearing a baseball cap and told him to go try to take her out of her stall and walk her towards the road. Wellllll that did not go well. She reared up in her stall and he got her calmed down and got her into the aisle of the barn and she tried to let him have it again....She yelled, reared up and was trying to kick. So, I went running out there calling her name and took the lead rope away from my friend, she settled down and I put her back in the stall with a carrot and sat with her for an hour. So...no worries about someone going into the barn and taking her without us hearing it and them getting hurt.
But from the looks on their faces when they saw they had to drive past me pointing a rifle at them....I do not think we will see them again. hahahaha It was 2 young men...one looked like a teenager. She filed a police report too so I do not think we are going to have any more problems. But I am watching anyway.
So, my neighbor works with security stuff and has his place wired so he sees everything going on at his place when he is at work or on the road....he is going to get me hooked up also within the next couple of months so every piece of perimeter and structures is being recorded. Just in case. Meanwhile, Jo's stall has a padlock on the chain in the inside so it is hard as heck to get to and my coop is locked up tight with key locks and I am armed and ticked off! The next time I see them....they can kiss their engine and radiator goodbye...

Ok i am upset about those jerks coming back BUT the pic in my head of you standing there pointing a gun at them ! PERFECTION - um if they come back they are dumber then we thought. If these ARE teens how in the world will they explain this to their parents!? LOL Great good for you -
Gunfight in Sadieville, yeah! Don't think they'll be back. If they are, they belong on a Stupid Criminals show.
Sad news: Molly, the little Speckled Sussex passed away during the night. We were expecting it after she slept all day yesterday. Adonis and the little Phoenix were silent this morning. I guess the new little friend for Adonis can be called Molly unless I think of something else for her. Sweet little thing.
P.O. called and two of the five boxes of eggs are there, but I know that the three I had confirmation #'s for all went through Atlanta yesterday, so they may come in on a later truck. Going to get those two in a few minutes.
Here's 3 day old Adonis and over a week-old Phoenix pullet:

Oh yeah! That's exactly what I'm saying!
Little toe rag, tyrant, troll ^#%@&#*!!!
HE is definitely a GOOBER!!! And not in a good way! How could that have come from my sweet, adoring, loving, gentle giant boy Chief? He must take after his mama, if his mama is who I think she is!
Lil Bit is the exact opposite of Gooby. Sweet, gentle, trusting....she'll even come jump up in my hand every morning when mother and brother have left her behind for their customary morning stretch and jumping session outside of the brooder. She's a total little sweetheart!
OK, I have a question for y'all. What's the best way to go about trimming chicken toenails? GeeGee has developed some seriously long and way overgrown toenails as a result of nearly 3 months in the brooder and nothing rough to scratch her toes across to keep them trimmed. I have corn starch on hand as an astipic (sp?), but I think I'm going to pick up some Stop Bleed to be on the safe side. Something tells me, due to her current "motherly" frame of mind, this is going to be a night time, 2 person, operation! One to hold, and one to trim. She just goes insane any time I try to restrain her for any reason right now!
Nick, I'm sorry about Luno. If you ever have to face culling again [and personally, I pray you never do] try simply a sharp blow to the back of the head. It's less messy and more merciful. A small hammer is usually sufficient to deliver the blow. Every person has their preferred method of euthanasia. That is ours.
Cetawin: You GO girl!!! Hopefully, those two fidiots will have a spark of momentary genius strike them and get the idea that they would be smart to never return to your neighborhood. If not, well, then I guess they truly are dumber than we all thought. In that case, they deserve to have a couple of gallons of bleach administered to their gene pool!! I'm absolutely loving the mental image of you standing there with a rifle that's probably darn near bigger than you, and firing away at those two dimwits!!
Boy! I bet you scared the living Shinnola out of those two!
Cyn,
Sorry to hear little Molly has passed on. At least she saved you from having to do it. As you, yourself have said many times, some of these sweet little souls are just too precious for this world. I know if the little sweetie had had any chance to make it in this world, she most certainly would have under your devoted care. Some lives are just not meant to be.
That little SP is about as darling as they come! Love the little chipmunk stripes down her back! And Adonis is looking real good too! Only 3 days old?!?!?
Thank you all about Luno. I used sharp sheers. It was my first time, actually, and I'm not sure why there was so much blood.
But I am actually glad to have it done and have Jay and his pullets (except for that stinker that I'm not sure of!)
LH, that is great! I can imagine you with a huge smirk on your face holding up and shooting your gun as those suckers drive away! As I've said before, I HATE THOSE PEOPLE.
Amy, Cyn says that hot glue stops the bleeding. I think that really large dog nail cutters work, but I'm not sure.
Oh Cyn I'm sorry about Molly. Wonder what it was. Maybe one of those diseases in hatchlings that Kathy wrote? Though if it's from a hatchery I would doubt that.
