Sdwd

From what i know - as we get alot here - they come in the morning and snatch one or two - only what they can carry . They dont kill for sport like those darn minks. They will however return-

Nick - I've seen this before unfortunately and it's happened to me. Now I tape the darn thing to the wall or use a very long cord and tape the end closest to the incu to the table with a little slack. TSC has turners on sale for $39.

Sorry for your trouble.

Foxes? - from what I'm told the take one and hide it and then keep returning to kill the rest and hide them till thy've taken the whole flock.. I've not experienced it though thank the Lord.

Evening y'all

Been in the yard all day and had the "young 'ens" out in the clover field. They had a blast....chasing every bug that dared move

Putting everyone up this evening I saw something I haven't seen since I got chickens....a RAT! Nasty, flithy. stinking rat

I try very hard to keep a clean place, but I guess the fields that were cut behind us could have chased some out. SO, my dilemma is, how do I safely get rid of the vermin without possibly harming my chooks??

Anyone got a good secret to share?

Off to the back porch for a glass o' vino.....take care

Here are some posts I found about ridding rats......

Lazy J Farms Feed & Hay :

Here is the bait station we use on our farm. We place them along the edges of our barns where rats and mice run. Since the baits are held in place with metal rods the rats can not remove the bait except in their mouths or stomachs.

Having the baits in the station prevent consumption by non-target species.

One of the formulations of this poison is also allowed on organic farms. I've used this and it works great. You need to keep everything away from the chickens and fresh.

Rancher, I will have to look into those turners! Thanks! Gee, I sure need 'em! At least one.

Kathy I hope that the fox doesn't come back. Hopefully it wasn't the same one.

I spent the day clearing an area for the new run... I think that it will be around 45 x 15. Wahoo!

Emily, my black Rock, is broody. She was on the nest all night and when we returned from a huge grocery trip, found her on a different nest, with her eggs, one of them broken in the nest. Thank goodness, they were still warm so some other hen pushed her out. I've had it with Emily so we put her in the broody pen under Zane, yet again, and if she doesn't sit, then she'll snap out of it and quit being a pain. Her babies would be due May 13, if she manages to get them that far.

I wish anyone except Emily would be broody, a hen I know I can trust, like Nugget, Panda, Shadow or Nora. Emily is a bit of a flake, LOL. We love her, but that girl is somewhat squirrely.

Cyn, that stinks... Hope she keeps it up. Rancher, I sure will! Just for one, and then I am going bargain hunting for a second one, though, because I just can't spend $80 on turners!

I candled! I see one swimmin' around in there, yes! The others still look developed, at least as far as they should, but no movement. I am so happy... I might just have one chick! Only one of my Silkies has made it, I think, but I am leaving them all in there.

Oh... I want one chick! Just one! No more candling until I go into lockdown, Tuesday.
