Cyn, tell Tom for me please, that I think that is one of the best ways I've ever heard anybody describe our friendships with our little feathered friends.

They really are simply fun to be with, aren't they?!?

I was going to ask you if there were any kind of flushing out procedure that could be performed on either of your girls, that might help mitigate some of their discomfort? Perhaps a sterile saline solution? Is that even possible? Without getting graphic, I think you understand what I'm trying to say here.

Poor little Lexie. Hang in there Cyn.

Hopefully this will all be over with soon for her and she can then rest in peace with Ivy on the other side. You, Tom and your sweet little old ladies are in my thoughts and prayers. Please, take some measure of comfort in knowing that you have given them the very best life any chicken could ever hope to have. And it shows in how long your girls have been around. Not many have succeeded in bringing hatchery girls to such an exalted age you know.

There is nothing I can do for Lexie now, sadly. She is fading quickly, drinks water, but refuses food. Reba, on the other hand, may be aided somewhat by draining her abdomen. She is eating like a hog, is bright and cheerful, just can't stand up all the way. At least I know that it isn't a rooster injury since they have only tiny Beau in that coop and he's scared of big bad Reba.

Poor girls

Kathy, don't feel bad about culling a bird with a problem. We all have different goals, different amounts of time and space and desire....I don't think I would keep a rooster with a bad leg either.

I just happen to like the rejects, so your crossbeak girl will fit in well here. I do think I will move my slipped tendon girl into my bantam cochin pen. Easier for her to get around, no big rooster to watch out for....

Speaking which, we should work on shipping arrangements before they get bigger and heavier and it gets even hotter.

So sorry Cyn.

Hopefully with no more hatchery you won't have to deal with this so much.

LH so sorry for all of that disaster! I have missed you and was wondering what happened!

Where are all your new chick pictures, Nick? I have been looking forward to seeing them. I am happy for you that you got some to hatch! How many did you get? Just think of your first hatch as a learning experience.
