Oh Kathy I am so sorry to hear this. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers and pray it does not get as bad as they are predicting.

Oh Kathy!!! I'm so sorry to hear about your family in Iowa and all that they face with the impending floods. I've lived through flood and fire both [separate events

] Given a choice, I'd rather loose everything to fire. It's quick and decisive. Flooding can take weeks, if not months to recuperate from.

You and your family are most assuredly in my thoughts and prayers. Along with everyone else fervently praying that the predictions of how bad this might get, add my prayers as well.

Please, keep us posted. We don't hear of these kinds of details in the news up here.

Laura, get yourself some of those Silkies! You're bound to get a broody or two out of that breed!

Interstate 29 is closed from Missouri Valley (my home town) south to near Council Bluffs. It has begun.......... My husband's sister lives in this area. We call this area, "the bottoms." I spoke to Michael today (son #1 that lives in our house on the hill). He said they are keeping abreast of the progress. They got a generator. I said, "What good is that gonna do? You will be stranded on top of the hill with no groceries in due time....................." I am thinking the grandkids will end up down here anyway. Michael works for a BIG farmer (8,000 acres), and they are keeping busy trying to save what they can..... mostly equipment. Many are doing lots of sandbagging at the city park, too. Michael's wife works at a casino in Council Bluffs. There are 3 there, and 2 have closed already. The one she works at is still open. At least she still has a job for a little while. Son #2 will still have a job (he works on the UPRailroad), as will his wife (she works in Omaha). They just won't have a home.

This is awful........

What is the long range forecast anyway? How far is this flood gonna affect?

I never watch TV or news. I need to see what I can find. It is the Missouri River and tributaries. OH, and they are suppose to have more rain this weekend, too. Modale (a small town near there) is already totally evacuated.

I wish I was there. I wanna see what is going on. For the first time since we moved to Missouri, I am homesick.

Kathy, I am praying for you and your family. I know it is hard to be away from them when they are having a tough time.

I am turning on the weather channel now.

No Kathy, trust me sweetheart, you really don't want to be there! It's just too heart breaking to see everything you've ever known, submerged in 10 feet of water or more.
hugs.gif
Been there, done that. Believe me, you really don't want to see it. But I surely understand the desire to be there. Sometimes, it's the not knowing what's happening that can make us feel more helpless and afraid than anything else. Our imaginations can really run wild with us. Hang in there sweetie. I'll keep praying. I know you will too. And as bad as it might get, this too shall come to pass in time.

The Missouri River is between Blair, NE and Missouri Valley, Iowa.
Daughter-in-law lives in Blair (Washington County, Nebraska).
This is us:
MISSOURI RIVER NEAR BLAIR AFFECTING HARRISON AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES.

THE MISSOURI RIVER NEAR BLAIR.

* FLOOD STAGE IS 26.5 FEET.
* IMPACT...AT 23.5 FEET...FLOODING BEGINS TO OCCUR AT WILSON ISLAND STATE PARK. < Trisha. She is devastated.

My mother-in-law is almost 90 years old. She lives in a high rise. They are evacuating. Trisha could not find a place for her to go that was anywhere near home. They are moving her to Kansas City to an assisted living place. She is sooooooooooo sad, to move from all her friends. Really, just the travel to KC will be so hard on her. Mark (Mike's brother) lives in Kansas City. KC is about 200 miles south of our home in Iowa.

I am just sick. I want to be there to help. To help what? I just don't know.

Kathy I have no idea what happened with our phones last night but I wanted to let you know you and the family are in my prayers. I am saddened to hear about your mil...poor dear that must be hard on her. *sigh* Please keep us posted.

All that is so awful, Kathy. Floods scare me almost as much as fire does. Maybe we ought to stay on our mountain here. Storms seem to bypass us, at least the worst part of it. We are high up on a small mountain at 2000 ft elevation, so it would have to be a biblical type flood to get close to reaching us here. The property drains well, too, so hardly ever any standing water, not for more than a few minutes.

LH, here is Nugget's baby, Ike x June did it again. Barred hackles, looks girly, but time will tell. She is 4 weeks old, I think.
