Kathy.....how are your Icelandics holding up to this weather?

Might consider hatching some for my FIL this Fall. He likes to have a "free range" group of birds at his place and they seem to be pretty adept at fending for themselves, huh?

Plus MIL would love to have something not quite so skittish as "games"

Thanks

They are doing well. They don't seem to be too bothered by the heat.
You just let me know ...... eggs are here for you anytime!

Okay day from hell here. First, ahem

Jo...went to hook up her new fan and feed her to find several abrasions down her front left cannon bone and pastern...bleeding and flesh exposed in several places. So...washed it up and called vet requesting a phone consult.

Garage, fed watered and put everyone out for the day...including ducks.

Big coop...went to feed water and release found my silkie, Pamela down...clear case of heat stroke...so I was carrying her to the house when Lancelot began alarming in back...I yelled for Cheyenne and started running downhill when I saw Lancelot and the fox fighting. I sat Pamela down and headed for Lancelot.

The fox had Lancelot by either the leg or the chest and Lancelot had the fox by the back...I can tell you that my heart was pounding out of my chest...my lone Ancona, Mounds came running by and the fox turned and grabbed her by the neck and carried her off into the woods. I knew I could not help my duck so I ran to Lancelot to find him bleeding and so mad I cannot describe it. I grabbed him up and he bit me twice...but I ran to the house with him and to the kitchen sink.

He bit me twice trying to check him over and clean him up. He had nasty puncture type bite wounds on his thigh and chest. But no other injuries.

The vet called back and said he would look at Lancelot's wounds when he came to check Jo. Then I called Cyn. We were chatting when cheyenne yelled that Mounds was back...she was near the front porch and ticked off ... flared up and mean. LOL

So vet came, Jo is good, lancelot is good, Mounds is good and Pamela is dying. He gave me an injection of pain meds for Jo and Lancelot and some strong electrolyte stuff for Pamela. And the bill for this...$3. I gave him $10. LOL. He said he loves visiting Jo and I had already done everything so he just charged me for the electrolyte stuff, not the injection or farm visit.

I swear his summer is going to be the death of me. Now off to check Lancelot and Jo. Later all

It is the same fox and it avoids the trap. I have had it set for a week...caught a possum, a cat but no fox yet. This was 10 am roughly

You are gonna have to wear a gun in holster at all times.
GEZ Louise, this is just getting ridiculous! DANG fox! Guess that's why they say, "sly as a fox," eh?
I hope you get him AND cook him up for dinner for the birds!

Is that the time fox usually hunt, 10AM? Or is that unusual?

All I can say is that I'm so glad she has one HUGE blue rooster who is determined not to lose another girl. That is one amazing boy, that Lancelot. Since Lance seems to be engaging predators on a regular basis, I am trying my darndest to hatch a few Suede babies for her, just in case he isn't so lucky next time. Between Neela and Smoky's clutches, there should be a few of those for her to get in a few weeks.

This has been the summer from you-know-where for us both, but I haven't had the predator issues yet. I know my time is coming and this summer would seem the time for it, as bad as it's been in every other way.

I'm sure the only reason that duck got away was that Lance hurt him pretty badly or at least, shook him up.
