Yard full o' rocks :

Well....officially (at least by my thermometers) 100F here today, at the coops and on the backporch (both of which are in the shade, BTW) and 2 different thermometers

....and lost 2 more birds today. 1 NICE BR pullet from my Hardy group and 1 CR cockerel. The pullet was outside under the trees, looking like she was asleep. Colby picked her up and she was lifeless and stiff. Cockerel was in the coop (not sure why as I had turned everyone out)

We need rain and cooler temps soon! I dont wish anyone harm or loss but maybe a "small" hurricane or tropical storm would help??!!

I'm soaked to the bone after tending to everyone this afternoon, so I'm off to clean up. Take care and stay cool!!

Oh, Scott, I am so sorry to hear this.

Hang in there, it HAS to cool off sometime soon......... It just HAS to!

I dread going outside to do chores 3, 4, 5, or 6 times a day, just fearing what I will find every time. I hate to get my water bill this month, too. What else can one do, besides getting air conditioners, which I simply will not do? Water and shade is the best I can do. I guess it is survival of the fittest here. I dunno........

Prayin' for rain and cooler temps...........

Yep, 100F here today too. I didn't check the broody in the coop (crazy bird) but didn't notice any problems with the other birds. Surprisingly the bird that looked the "hottest" is my leghorn/giant hen. You'd think the leghorn in her would help her heat issues. I noticed a lot of my hens standing in the ice cold runoff of the air conditioner condensate drain. Since the air conditioner runs almost all day, it is a constant stream of ICE cold water. There were 4-5 hens standing in the river and pooled areas all at once when I went out tonight. Love my smart girls.

Hey now, she's not fat, she's just big boned! LOL

After I posted the pic, I thought "gee, maybe she is overheating because she is digesting EVERYTHING IN SIGHT".

At least nobody can accuse me of starving my girls! LOL That's what happens when you have a half acre of long grass (going to seed in spots) lots of weeds, trees and bushes with major bugs crawling around all over. Plus a healthy dose of scratch feed in the AM and a feeder of layer pellets/crumble mix available all day. The darn chickens hit the coop every night stuffed to the gills. All you can eat buffet at Nella's house.

He is just the cutest!!

Those of you having issues with the heat, are you able, or do you, put misters out or ice jugs and does it seem to help any? I will usually turn the mister on the hose and place a ton of ice jugs around when it gets too warm here. However I know it is at least 10 to 15 degrees warmer there then here on it's hottest days.

So sorry for all these losses, it is just heartbreaking.
