Yup! That's what I remember having seen once or twice before. You really need to post pictures of your three as soon as they go into the brooder. I bet they're just darling! How is that third egg doing now Kathy? Any signs of it joining the party?

Tim and Trish: Just give in to it. There are far worse things to be addicted to in this world. In submitting to your addiction, you'll lead a healthier and more stress free life. Don't fight it! *insert wicked grin here*

On the contrary it's getting to be stressful. Physically stressful. It's a vicious cycle. In order to keep a breed w/o a roos you need a supplier for hens and then there are the breeds you want to breed and that requires a nice roo. Unless you can learn to lop off heads and you can't just throw away good meat.

I have to breed Dels but if I want more lavender ameracuana I have to breed them too. No one sell hens cheaply and it's easier to hatch them and it's hard to find a supply of Orpington eggs. People are so dishonest you might get crap chicks.

What I was hoping wouldn't happen, but still thinking it would, is happening. I think. Nugget, who just two weeks ago, "lost" her 14 week old son, the one she never rejected, is going broody (I rehomed him before he could start mating the old ladies in that coop). Tonight, she crawled onto a nest at roost time, which is exactly how it usually starts with her. Oh, man, do I give her any eggs this late in the year? She is a very trustworthy hen, for sure, and she creates her own peer group by having babies, being the bottom of the pecking order as she is. I have three Delaware eggs and one BBS Orp egg (Dusty's this time), but it's so darn late!
