Weather should be OK till Thanksgiving, but I have lived through snowstorms in October, so I can't promise anything- it's a big part of why I moved!

I have never fed pure alfalfa, unless they were in training - just usually a good grass hay, maybe a timothy mix. NOT bermuda grass or Johnson grass, mine don't like it. Fescue if it has been treated. Most fescue in Wisconsin has been treated - I guess it doesn't matter if you aren't going to breed her, though. Our farm hay was different mixes of fescue and timothy for the most part.

The address for the registration is on her papers- I think the web site is Arabhorse.org I will look up fees when I get home, it's usually a little higher for non members- they want everyone to join up. Not worth joining the association unless you are going to show or compete somehow, but I would transfer the papers, definitely.

Sarah's horses have some long hip there - look smoooooooth!

Most of the grass hay here is timothy fescue mixes...The seed mix we are looking at also has clover. I have no plans to breed her unless the perfect man strolled by and she thought he might do.

I guess it is always a possibility so I will watch for the treated stuff but most of it here is treated from what I recall.

The plan is to hire the driver, rent the trailer and send them both off to collect her. DH may accompany the driver because I trust him. We would prefer to go ourselves but not owning a trailer and not being able to leave Cheyenne alone and the animals for 26 plus hours plus DH's back would not let him drive a rig like that without tons of stops...I do not want her on the road any longer than necessary.

Meanwhile, I shall be pacing and getting her stall fluffed, treats baked and all of her stuff ready...and did I mention pacing? hehehehe

OMG I AM TURNING HER INTO A DIVA AND SHE IS NOT EVEN HERE YET!

Sarah's horses are a mess...she has a real drama queen...Pumpkin Roll. She will limp terrbly and make me total freak out, run over check her legs, call Sarah yada yada and when my back is turned she walks perfectly fine. Sarah and Cheyenne watched her do it Sunday.

Pumpkin Roll have any blue Orp blood in her veins? My gelding pulls sob stories on me after his shots - "Oh mama, my neck HURTS and I can't reach my hay, YOU will have to hand feed me" sob, sniff, slobber. No one can look as pathetic as he can.

Jo will adore you. She is SO amazingly people oriented. Did I tell you that when she was born, I had to get out of the stall as she was way more interested in me than her mama, and I was afraid she wouldn't bond properly? I will never forget that little muzzle all over my face, checking me out for the good stuff. She likes cats, lays her ears back at dogs, but doesn't kick. I am not sure if she has seen a chicken, but she will probably be fine.

Don't pace- hehehe - you can't get any skinnier!!!

LMAO your gelding and Pumpkin Roll must be related somehow...

when Sarah pointed out she was walking fine when I turned around...I was like "Got your game now wench" so when I was walking her to the farrier I said "aawwwww poor mare come on" and I took a step and went "Come on poor hurting mare we don't want to have to shoot you" took a step "There there Pumpkin I know it is horrible" and she was laying it on! I mean she just rolled her foot like it was broken and dragging.

They must both be part blue orp somewhere hahahaha

BTW what type of bedding is Jo used to or does it matter? I was considering the equine pine pelleted....what do you think?

We both use pine shavings. My friend uses it over wood floors, I have it over stall mats, which are over pea gravel and dirt for good drainage. She has had babies, so has had straw bedding also, although that is NOT good for anything but birthing babies. Try pellets and see- I just don't think they are soft or hold warmth as well in winter.

Yup- they both have to have BLue Orp blood- gotta another good story on my gelding, but will have to wait, as I am at work and sneaking on and off here.

Well right now I have dirt floors in the barn and was thinking the pelleted with straw until I get it fixed up with mats (which is how we always did our TBs) and a shavings bin built. Must think through these choices...or I could just give her central ac/heat

I used to use pine pellets and shavings mixed. Shavings for the "fluff factor" and pellets for the urine absorption factor.

Now now girls, nobody can lay on the pity party quite like my mare. Oh no, my leg, its broken, can't wait, can't be ridden....must be retired permanently at age 12 where I will then romp around the pasture perfectly sound and prance like a flipping' dressage horse. Oh no, is that a lunge line I see? Limp, liiiiiiiiiiimp.....

I moved her to a new barn last year....had discussed with the owner that she was lame and just a pasture ornament. I get her unloaded and put her into their outdoor arena. She arches her neck and prances down the fenceline. Would have put the old dressage lady's half million dollar warmblood to shame. The barn owner looked at me and said "She doesn't look very lame".

Sigh.
