Yard full o' rocks :

I must be following right behind Kathy....definitely 1 Delaware chick hatched. Was just putting chick feed and water into the brooder pen and s/he popped out from under mama. So far, no others yet....but she's on 13 eggs, so here's hoping more will be here later

THIRTEEN?!?!?

She just got out for water and there is definitely only one chick. She came back too fast for me to look for other pips. She is a great mama...did super with her first hatch...even "adopted" the one I rescued from Mammy (mean ole broody), so let's hope she does as well with these

Well I came home and found two of the three del chicks outside the run by themselve in the rain and momma and #3 inside the run. I scooped them up and was going to put them inside with wounded chick but mom squawked so I feather sexed them and put the two that I think are roos with mom and the other with wounded chick inside.
The run is covered but I leave the door open to the fenced in yard so they can range. I also have it partially covered with plastic. Straw on the floor so they have something to move around as they scratch for ........scratch.

Del pullets seem to run 50/50 this hatch by feather sex method. Of course wounded chick is a pullet. Of course the Lord only knows.

Scott, Trilyn says your BR's are a must have. Of course I agree.

Take care of those Del chicks.

Broodies!!!!!! uuuuggghhhhh

Just went out to lock everyone up and where did I find Sugar (the broody Del)??!! Sitting in the doorway of the broody coop with Del chick #1 on her back!!!!! I have no idea how long she was off the nest.

I began gathering up the eggs as I was going to put them into the 'bator to finish hatching....well, whatdayaknow, but Sugar goes berserk, hops back into the nest and settles in!!!.....uuuuggghhhh

If she does anything like this tomorrow the eggs are going into the 'bator. Its already on and temps/humidity are just right

Hope everyone has a great evening

The bloody one did not make it .... I mean it was ALOT of blood coming out of that egg. I removed it, to prevent any kind of bacteria forming. Here are the first 2 Delawares to hatch. They are due tomorrow, I thought...

Oh, they are well on their way now, aren't they Kathy! Such sweet little faces. I'm so sorry that you lost the bleeding one. I wonder if a little daub of corn starch might have done the trick?
