Yard full o' rocks :

Tim

In answer to your question about the "mixes"....its a total accident. I have 2 blue rocks in with my Delawares (Pepper needed a few extra girls). Had NO intention of more chicks this year.

However, when Sugar went broody, I just put all the eggs she had under her and some were Del x blue rocks

I'm not keeping any of them....ITSMYOBSESSION is coming to get all of them this weekend

I've pretty well decided to stick with raising only the Barred Rocks and Columbian Rocks from here on out...I really dont have the space to do more than 2 varieties correctly with breeding pens, grow up pens, etc, etc

Well in either case I still want some Barred Rocks, are blues recognized by the APA? I do like my hatchery BO's and orps in general.

Now as far as Dels. I like them cuz they're my best layers. Even the old girls. I recently received an e-mail from trilyn about a guy on here in Olean, NY with Dels and contacted him on where his birds came from and he replied that he has no roos due to a pred attack.
Cyn, Georgia boy is doing his thing and Georgia girl is laying. I haven't put him with the WNY girls cuz I'm trying to get more pullets from them before they aren't laying.

Got rid of the Aussies and SLW's this summer. Good garden o' peas! It seems lots of folks lose birds to preds. The guy I gave the hens to had lost his to preds. Now I hope I don't speak to soon and have an attack.

There are just to many breeds to keep them all, but that hasn't stopped me from trying.

Take care folks

Tim, my Dels and my Rocks are my best layers, followed by my EEs and Ameraucanas.

Well, next phase is done on the quilt; now, need to make 16 12" blocks to go around for the next part. Tried to do graduated color in blues and purples and had a hard time because some values were so similar that I wasn't sure which was darker and which was lighter, even with that handy little gadget called a Ruby Beholder (red plastic to look through to see it in grayscale).

Tim,
Gotta work on those Heritage breeds! I do love the Delawares and the Barred Rocks!

Very nice, Cynthia! I am liking that quilt alot!

Have you seen the fabric called Caryl Bryer Fallert's Gradation Collection by Benartex? I love it.

Great Googly Moogly Cyn! That thing just keeps getting purtier and purtier every time I see it!

I really like the way the inner purple border makes the whole thing just totally pop against that yellow! Very, VERY nice!

*sigh* If only I had been born rich instead of beautiful! I'd be commissioning you to make me one with some of those same colors!

Hey Tim! Can you do me a little favor? The next time you see Trish, would you give her a couple of these for me!

I sent her an email tonight, but I don't expect to hear back from her right away. She tends to get rather busy these days. Especially with all of the plotting and scheming you two are up to!

Kathy, today was a "work on the house" day, but we're still moving in the right direction. I've been formulating how to put a nest box addition onto one side of that big old dog house and see how that works. I think I've got the covered run part all figured out in my head, since it isn't going to be exactly like a hoop run like Trisha's. But kind of a take off on that same idea. When I get it all done, I'll post some pics and y'all can tell me where there is room for improvement.

Oooh! I can hardly wait to get all of this stuff done so that sweet little EE girl and her two young-uns can come up here to live with me and my little mutts! By the way Kathy, have you named ANY of those three little ladies?? It would be nice to know if I need to start searching for names now or what.
hugs.gif
Thanks again for holding on to them until we're ready.

OK folks, I have so much stuff to get done tomorrow that it's ridiculous. I'm heading to bed early. Sweet and pleasant dreams to you all and I'll catch up with y'all in the morning!

No, I haven't. I probably need a real fabric shop to find those. I use lots of blenders from the flea market quilt shop-love those! The colors are so rich, they can be used anywhere. I try not to have to pay $10/yd if I can help it. The aforementioned shop has nice fabrics and they are mostly $5/yd, with a one yard minimum.

Amy, you don't have to be rich, trust me. I just can't do more than one big project at a time, and generally, I prefer to do no larger than lap quilts. This is an aberration for me, to do a bed quilt, but I'm thinking of it as two lap quilts combined, LOL.

Okay, okay, I went looking this morning and he is out in the rooster pen as expected. I even tossed the boys some BOSS. He is NOT the top rooster in there. I think he is either 2nd or 3rd in line.....so is never at the front of the fence waiting. My mille cochin rooster in there kicks butt and takes names.....no holds barred. He keeps those boys marching. He is always at the fence, usually along with 1 or 2 of the split boys. Actually maybe your guy is 4th in line...LOL...I know he has 4 boys below him at the very least. A couple of those split boys are he11 on wheels....

Anyone have any neat projects other than Serrin and Cyn? I am going to try to finish up my smaller coop this weekend. Still has only 3 walls and no roof LOL. My dad is coming for a visit the 2nd for 2 weeks and I need to get all of my building crud out of the carport.....otherwise I hear alllllllllll about it. He doesn't realize he is going to help me move this new coop that is in process, and do a prewinter cleaning. Muah ha ha.....

No, we really have not named them. The 3 Easter Eggers always hang out together, and we always said (I don't recall who started this) .... "Here comes Suzie Q, Suzie Belle, and Sally." I think you will need to start searching for names!

As for the babies, I really think they are both females. Of course I could be wrong, but they feathered out quickly and they have smaller sized legs as well.

Oh, by the way, they are now sleeping in the highest row of nests. I have 3 levels of nests. They began on the floor level, and have progressed upwards. They look so cute in there.

I have so many projects going on, it would take a whole page to tell you them all. Quilt projects I call UFOs (UnFinished Objects) I have at least 50 of those in process. Chicken projects are never ending.

I am headed to Iowa today, to visit the kids. As a bonus to the trip I am picking up a couple trios of real true Heritage Barred Rocks that originate from a flock from 1920. I am very excited about that. Here is a picture of the parents ...

Brittney and some friends went fishing in the pond out back a couple days ago. They got this in about 15 minutes.

Kathy, those BR are beautiful, I can't wait to see the pictures of yours. There are SO many breeds that I would love to have, too. Tim, I agree with you. But space is at a premium and I need to get a layers coop and run done before I expand past my Dels and BBS Orps. IF I think I can handle it. . . . . .growing old is NOT fun.

Cyn, that quilt is getting more and more gorgeous. There is supposed to be a fantastic quilt shop in Franklin, NC- do you know about it? I saw it featured in a quilting magazine that I was peeking into at the grocery store. That would be close to you-

How do you learn to quilt, anyway? Is there a Quilting for Dummies?

OMG Woman! If you ever find such a book, grab a copy for me too!!!!! I'll pay ya right back!

I paid a visit to my now accessible sewing machine last week, and I so miss just stitching things together. [I made a new set of sheers for the big travel trailer that were desperately needed

] I'm perfectly at home making things straight out of my head, but how in God's sweet green Earth Cyn does those amazing patterns is beyond my ability to comprehend!

Surely there is a book for such projects that even I could follow?!? I mean, there are "Dummies" books for everything else under the sun! Why not one for quilting??

Well, time to go let everyone out and get the boys set up for the day. Boy! Am I ever going to be happy once I have their situation improved. Much as I love the cuddle time with my boys, it will be nice to be able to just open the door and let Chief and his ladies out and not have to worry about keeping Brutus, CB and Red out of his face!
hmm.png
If only I could speak to them and have them understand a great many things!
