NICK (side by side) GEORGIA BOY

It was hard to get Georgia boy he just did not like his picture taken. I took about 100 pics in two days trying to get good pics. The girls will have to be done again. I just snap a bunch and then look them over to see if any are any good.

I don't know nothing about giving no shots LH, but wouldn't a shot in the thigh be better than a shot in the behind?

Good evening y'all! Been a very busy day here at the Blue Feather! [my little long time fantasy name for our place, if it had ever been big enough to warrant one of them high falutin' names!
wink.png
]Morning came early as usual. By mid morning, I had the coop cleaned out and fresh shavings in place. Ooooh so much better smelling in there now! The only part of the entire coop to ever get to stinking is right under the roost ladder. I'm toying with a few ideas to make that situation better, but like anything else around here, it all takes time!
hmm.png

Left for town around noon for chicken feed and supplies. And of course, as luck would have it, I ran into three different folks at the feed store that I haven't talked to in some time!
lol.png
Naturally we had to spend a little bit of time chatting and getting caught up with the events of the summer. It never ceases to amaze me how much can happen in such a little tiny town like Cheney. All the drama! All of the intrigue!

So, got back home around 2:30-3:00, to a DH who was in the process of putting legs on the dog house to turn it into a small coop!

This is going to be one awesome little coop! Denny had insulated it years ago when we had built it for Jasper, but that silly old mutt has never liked it very much. And now days, he's getting so old that no amount of insulation in an outdoor dog house is going to be enough for him. He sleeps on the floor at the foot of our bed every night. There's something so cozy about that!
love.gif
But I digress, as usual!

Denny had cut out for and installed a small window in the back end of the dog house/ now coop, so the girls will have plenty of daytime light to see by. It made it seem almost twice as big inside. The legs for the coop give it about a foot and a half to two feet of headroom underneath. I'll close off the south and west sides of that to give any girls living in there a bit of a break from the elements. Knowing how our prevailing winds blow around here, that should be enough for that little area. I do plan on building them a much larger covered area within their yard, but the covered part won't be fenced off. With their entire yard area fenced off, I just don't see the need. It has proven itself predator proof several times already, from at least 4 footed predators at any rate. Hawks are always another matter. Hence the covered area. That will serve more as an area to get out of the rain/wind/snow than anything else.

So, now it remains for me to button up the front door of the coop, put a couple of nest boxes in there just for the comfort of familiar surroundings, and install a roost up off of the floor. Oh, and let's not forget the ramp! Must have a ramp, because ultimately, this coop will be for my old ladies. They've worked so hard for the last 4.5 years. They've earned a respite from crazy boys and their antics!
hmm.png
It should be just the perfect size for all four of them.

Now all I have to do besides finish off the little coop is to make the necessary alterations to my main coop to better accommodate the boys. I'm going to partition off one corner inside of the coop for the boys. They don't need all that much space as all they ever do in the coop is to sleep at night. The rest of their time is usually spent outdoors in the current covered run.

We're going to build them a much larger covered run behind the coop just for they and they alone. It will be nearly twice the size of their current area, so that should make for some much happier little men. Granted, it's not the 3 little coops with three little flocks of girls I've been promising them for half of forever, but it's a step in the right direction!
wink.png
Anyhow, they'll have their own separate entrance to the main coop and I won't have to give them piggy back rides to bed every night any more! Not that I mind that at all. It's part of our snuggle time. But it makes it darn awful hard to find someone to take care of everyone if we should want or need to be away for a few days!
roll.png

So keep hanging in there Kathy! We're still going in the right direction and making progress...slowly...but each day brings us just a little bit closer! I can so hardly wait to see Mama and the babies ensconced in their new temporary little coop! I just know they're going to be absolutely darling!

So Beth, what's for breakfast for Xander tomorrow morning? Scrambled eggs?

Just make sure Ultrasuede gets some too!

Beth here is the link to that shop. It looks nice, but not sure how much inventory they have--it's more like a really decorated victorian home inside than a store. Quilt shop prices are higher than other fabric stores, it seems to me. Most are $9-10/yd.

Ga boy looks pretty good, Tim. They are always moving, aren't they?

There is more than one quilt shop in Franklin and the other one is cheaper and has more fabrics. It is on the highlands rd I think. So that would give you two to see. If I know when you are coming I could take you Ladies to Lunch if I am not in another Dr. offfice, ugggggh. Gloria Jean

Georgia boy seems taller and skinnier than Nick.

If I was to say Bill Braden, you would say?

Anyone have any comments on a good white egg layer for the north?

Tim, sweetheart, at the risk of sounding like a complete moron here....which boy is which? I keep looking at the combs in each picture, and I could swear I'm looking at the same boy in each one. Only their tails look slightly different from each other, but for all I know, that could be just due to the angle of the shot?
hu.gif
Any chance I could get you to label your pictures as to who is who, and which is which? Please? Purty, purty please?
lol.png
No matter how you cut it though, those are some fine looking Del's!! Yes sir! Nice looking birds!

Oh heavens no then I would have to actually watch and I would never do it

This way I just aim and close my eyes and pop then I look to make sure I am a okay, draw back and give the shot.

Here is a funny story for you...DH and I are at the lab on Fort Bragg and they are doing my 6 month bloodwork up...hubby goes with me because he knows I hate having blood drawn. Well the vampire doing the blood sucking, missed, so she tried again and missed. By this time DH is watching me like a hawk because I assume he thought I was gonna lose it and push her away well she went for the third time and missed and I snarled as I reached for the needle and said "Give me that you incompetent twit" and I jabbed the vein myself and said "can you manage to switch the tube or must I do that for you?" DH just chuckled because he has done the exact same thing to a couple young nurses...problem is, his veins are hard to find and mine just pop up easy as you please.

I am not afraid of needles as much as I am afraid of the person operating the needle. hahaha

Gloria Jean, look out, we may take you up on that! I was hoping we would have time to chat when I get Cloud anyway, so maybe we can get Cyn to come down and fabric shop, I can pick her brain about quilting.

Tim, I am with Amy, I was having trouble figuring out who was who - but I must say the color is impressive in both boys. And nice combs- they follow their heads pretty darn well. I know Jeremy likes his Braden pullets that he has, but I don't know if anyone else here has any.

Cyn, yes, I could find ways to stuff LOTS more fabric in there, rather than furniture, but it still looks pretty. Those monkeys are a hoot. Are there any fabric stores in Franklin? There are a few in Asheville, but they are almost as far away as Franklin.

Cetawin, I can't stand needles, either, and HATE having bloodwork or shots. Chemotherapy just about did me in mentally, having to sit there and look at that needle stuck in me while all that poison pumped in. Bleah! But what I want to know is WHERE you are finding enough anything on that teeny little butt of yours to stick a needle- I know it's faster than pills, but you don't have an ounce of anything to stick on your butt!

Amy- your DH may not be on the same page as you regarding chickens, but at least he will build you things. My DH shudders in horror at the thought. However, he mows like a maniac, and fiddles with the lawn mowers. He also cleans house, so I guess I will keep him.

Now Beth why are you dissing my butt?
gig.gif
Actually, you are correct I have no fat layer to speak of and pretty much only muscle so I am pretty good no matter where I stick in the main glute...I aim towards the curve to the hip.

How is Alexander this morning? And more importantly, how is Ultrasuede?

Morning all

Ladyhawk....since you have NO fat to your hiney, would it be safe to use the muscle of your quad instead of being a contortionist trying to reach your fanny??

I am a complete "medical idiot", so it may be a stupid question

Off to clean coops. Gotta get some pix today of the blue rock cross delaware pullets. They are turning out to be very pretty!!

Have a great Saturday....they say cooler weather and RAIN is on the way here
