Yard full o' rocks :

Opening weekend was relatively successful for us...saw plenty of deer. Landon (my 15 yr old) killed a nice 8 point Sunday morning. He also shot a wild boar that bottomed out a 300lb set of scales...it was an OLD NASTY looking rascal with HUGE tusks. I shot a 110lb wild hawg sow Sunday evening that is now being processed for wintertime chili and stew

Holy COW ! ! Do you get the 300+ pound wild boar processed, too? I can only imagine what he looked like. Did you take pictures for us? Congratulations on the successful hunt!

Yard full o' rocks :

I woke up to "chicks" this morning from my Columbian Rock fertility hatch (like I need chicks this time of year huh!!) Right now one is out and 8 of the remaining 9 are pipped. Hope they all hatch quickly so I can get them into the brooder before rain comes....we are "praying" for some to get to us tonight.

Oh boy .... here ya go ..... You are gonna have some great stock of Columbians! I am loving watching you get them going. They are so rare. It is a great thing you are doing, to preserve these birds!

Beth .... See ya tonight, at the meeting! Hope you get to feeling better.

LadyHawk .... Wishing you well, and hope you have an uneventful and quick recovery!

Cyn .... I sure hope those girls of yours are improving. I know it is so hard and time consuming when they are, "under the weather!" It can sure wear ya out.

Oliver seems to be okay. But tell me this ...... What the heck am I gonna do with Leggs? He is still our "garage rooster." He goes into the garage and into the kennel (big wire cage) every night. I do not think he will ever make it when he goes out where there are other roosters. He is scared to death of them. I suppose because he has been bottom of the pecking order for so long. Anyway, DH refuses to give him up, because he wants to see exactly how tall and big he is gonna get. I really do not want to keep 1 big ol' rooster in my garage all winter.

It took me nearly 2 days to clean out our garage .... I took out everything and dusted and washed and scrubbed (tools, walls, floor, etc), just to reclaim it as a garage. Dust, dander, dirt now gone ..... but for how long?

Well, then, Kathy, just take him in the house.

Scott- those boys must be SO proud, knowing they help supply food for the family - but a BOAR?? I would have been terrified.

Nelda, heal up, old girl!

Info from this thread ..... (excellent thread!)
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=2525157

Wazine: For Wazine 17 (piperazine 17%) you use one ounce wazine per one gallon of water. Or two measuring spoon Tablespoons of wazine per one gallon. Give as their sole source of water for 24 hours. Then remove from the coop. Retreat in 14 days with wazine, or consider treating them with a more broad spectrum wormer like fenbendazole, levamisole, or ivermectin.

By the way, wazine must be followed up. I perfer to start with wazine, then 2 weeks or a month later (or during the next molt) use ivermectin. Then I just use ivermectin 2 x's a year and natural stuff in between.

Note: that is an old thread .... now I think the preference is Valbazen. Nice thing about Ivermectin is that it also kills lice and mites (speaking of the follow-up treatment). Anyway, that is the Wazine dosage you asked for.

Evening all.

Beth- - you feeling any better? A cold is absolutely THE WORST for me. You feel yukky, can't sleep, can't breathe...uuggghh. My daddy used to give me a shot of Jack Daniels mixed with a tablespoon of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey to help me sleep as a child....could be useful for "medicinal purposes only" in adults too I suppose

Ladyhawk - - how's the mouth? Good drugs I hope??!!

Still no luck for me on the job hunting front, BUT, a gentleman from church has asked me to begin working at his shop, part time, building electrical panels. $10/hr I guess is better than nothing and will get me out of the house every day!!

At the very least it will cover my addictions (chickens and hunting) and probably get us through the expenses of Christmas.

My hatch is almost over!! 8 of 10 are out and well. The remaining 2 have pipped but seem to be slow about making their entrance.

Hope everyone has a great evening. Time for a glass o' vino and the TV.

So tired. Had to get a toilet at Home Depot and am now dealing with the parts not matching those pictured. Nelda won't eat or drink, Maxie is just a PITA. I doubt either can be saved. I am trying to whipstitch the binding on the back of that quilt and everything keeps interfering.

I think I need something "medicinal".

Cyn...surely in those hills around you, you could find some good ole "apple or peach brandy"??!! 1 small glass would last all evening and you'd sleep like a rock!

Hope tomorrow is better
