Shocks me that Hughsnet is even working!

On second thought, they were probably pinned to the fence by the wind, LOL.

Honestly, I think I saw a couple like that, too!

]The wind is so strong here [/b].... all of my chickens have went inside ....
EXCEPT ...... guess who ....

Yup, the Delawares! ha They are still out there braving the wind to forage!

How strong are they?

Has anyone heard from Scott? Did I miss a post or anything- did he figure out what was wrong and why he was losing pullets?

Windy here, but it's supposed to hit harder later tonight- I guess I will find out how well I did build the Orp coop. . . . .

I've been wondering the same thing. Where o where is Scott?

I pulled out the broody mom and baby tonight. Pulled all the other eggs. All of the ones with signficant development went to another broody. Tossed 3 and tossed 1 from the bantam cochin that was a clear. She got all the others. Not sure if she can handle that many but I guess we'll see! A few are VERY developed....mostly dark.....so hopefully they will hatch soon and i can just give them to the broody mom and the other baby. She is a BIG mom and was doing very good with her baby. Showed it how to eat and drink and clucked at it.

Oh, Nella, now that is just the cutest ever! Those broody mamas are just great.

SPEAKING OF SUCH ......
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG, You should have seen me trying to get mama EE and the 2 babies today, to ship off to Serrin.
lol.png

I had them "trapped," in an area beneath the deck that has lattice around the bottom. I got down and was actually crawling around ..... netted me one chick.

Next, mama was screaming her head off, and would not come near me (which is unusual). She was trying to call the one that was still loose and trying to look in the box (over near the garage). After 20 minutes of bribery not working, I resorted to big ol' fishing net. FINALLY, I got mama........ THEN the other baby went running and screaming back to her roost (a nest). She ran so fast, I was amazed. When I had them all in the box they were quite content and talking to each other sweetly. On the other hand, I am exhausted!

lost 2 calves today

one at a water bank, DOA. The other I found (barely alive) stuck up to his back in boot sucking mud and dug him out with DH helpin me. We finally get his legs free, drug him up the hill (THAT was interesting), got him in the truck and over to the barnyard. Then washed him off, got him nestled in a haypile, with hay on top of him for warmth and I guess that was "all she wrote" and he died, in my lap

6 hours from start to finish, I guess the poor guy just was too give out to keep on.

Needless to say, that water bank has been fenced off now.

Then a heifer and bull calf got out, not sure how

and onto the road. Thankfully, all we had to do was cut the perimeter fence and shoo them in.

Then DH fixed the fence....

What a day!!!

Needless to say, I was covered in mud, cow manure and lord knows what else
