Well here is the sad update...the transport left without Joleta. She would not load into the trailer...she put one hoof on the ramp, backed out and would not go near the trailer again...she even reared up on him several times. Although she was the perfect lady with him leading and handling...she was having nothing to do with getting in the trailer. He said she would have required manhandling to load and he will not manhandle a horse to get them in the trailer. Food enticement did not work, treat enticement did not work, walking her around and bonding with her was not enticing anywhere near the trailer, letting her sniff and check out the trailer was a no go.

Sooooo despite being out the half of her transport fee already paid...now I have to figure out how to refresh Joleta's trailer loading memory with her in Wisconsin and me in Kentucky. Her arrange somehow for her caretaker in Wisconsin to get her trailer refreshed. When she will load, I can send the transport back for her.

I want my horsey but am thankful for my transporter because he would not create a bad experience for her or manhandle or mistreat her any way...but I want my horsey

He did however say that she is a wonderful beautiful girl and would never hurt a fly and that I had a "great horse".

I am going to collapse into a fit of tears and cry myself to sleep and start the day over in a few hours. *sigh*

Nighty Night All

Cetawin, I emailed you, but will repeat myself here.

All I can think is that she thought she was being stolen. She is one smart girl and understands a lot of things. When we sent her down to Boni, we talked to her for weeks that she was leaving to go back to WI, that she would be with Boni, and we were there to load her. If he came in at night, she didn't know him, Boni wasn't there, then dang. She wasn't going with any strange male in the middle of the night in a strange trailer, no way, no how. She should not have fogotten her trailer skills that fast. She was down HERE longer than she was with Boni and she had no problems loading up here. That is all I can think.
Hopefully Boni will be there next attempt.

I am tempted to fly up there and do it myself!

Oh Cetawin

So sorry to hear Joleta didn't make it. Hopefully yall can get her more comfortable with things and loaded up soon!!!!

Cynthia-very sorry to hear about your girl passing

Sounds like she had a terrific last few weeks tho

Well, that sucks. However, i would be cranky about losing money on this considering you had it all set up to have the BO there to load her and take care of things and its not your fault he had to go in the middle of the night and try to do it himself. That would be annoying.

When I got my horse, she did not trailer load. Heck she wasn't even very well halter trained, so she was "guided" in following another horse the first time, since it was a stock trailer.....then they made a chute and "ran" her in the 2nd time since it was a slant load. We had a heck of a time getting her off the trailer and finally had to put a butt rope on her and she shot out like a rocket and almost killed us all (LOL). She has been decent since then. Nothing a few minutes of encouragement can't fix. However, I have been around for most of the loadings and unloadings ever since that day and she does well with me

Here she was after being unloaded the day I got her, snorting and blowing at the trailer.

Yes she was in poor condition, but better than when I "bought" her.

I bet if the barn owner is around next time, they won't have any problems. Also, was it a big semi or a "regular horse trailer"? The semis are tall and have steep skinny ramps.....When the big semi rolled up to pick up my Foxy to move her from Cali to TN, they let the ramp down and I thought "well, crap, that's never going to happen"....fortunately, my horse had a good year of daily handling at that point, so she was lead in without a major fuss.

Thanks so much! Well I got the notice this morning that the bator will be here Wednesday via UPS
ya.gif
Well Wednesday is also lockdown for the eggs in my homemade bator. 26 of them, lol. And then the BR eggs (12) will be here Wednesday or Thursday. The reason for the BR eggs is I was in a swap last month and my partner has fallen off the face of the Earth so the admin of the swap is sending me eggs instead. She is a very nice lady! I would love to have some Dels, but all i've seen available are on ebay and to pay big $$ i'd like to know a little about the seller and their birds. So might just have to wait till spring for the Dels.

LH so sorry to hear that Joleta isn't on her way. I've been around horses all my life and it just seems they just made frustrating decisions on her pick-up. Hope you can get her re-scheduled for pick-up soon! Maybe we should do like the egg train and have a Joleta train. That way she would make all kinds of friends during her travel. Be cool if you could! Anyway sending hugs to you and tell DD that Myrtle and the bunch are fixing to move out this week to allow room for the newcomers. I'm going to have chickens in my kitchen forever,

I had logged on, fully expecting to read that Joleta was safely on board and on her way to you. Instead I read that she's still in Wisconsin! Oh, how sad!!

So, when will your transport guy be able to swing back around to pick her up? Is Boni going to be able to get her ready in that time span?

As for the forfeiture of your transport fee, I ask this: Why? You're not at fault here. Your transport guy's schedule was screwed up by people you have absolutely no connection to? So why are you the one paying for his lost time? I'm pretty sure Joleta Bey would be on her way right now were it not for the other people who messed up the schedule!

And what about those other people who started this logjam in the first place? Are they being charged for their part in this mess? I think you should be discussing this with your transporter or the company he works for [is he an independent or a corporate driver?] and point those facts out to him/them!

Sheesh! Listen to me! Preaching to the woman who has made many a prosecutor shake in their shoes!

Kathy: I have tons of pictures yet to post to my page. What I don't seem to have is the time or the energy to post them! But, since you enjoy it so much, I'll try to get a new chapter up tonight......or maybe tomorrow....See what I mean? The Queen of Procrastination I tell ya!! That's ME!

Well I am disappointed but if Boni can work with her on trailering, I can send the transporter back on the 28th or 29th....

NellaBean, while I agree that it is not my fault or Joleta's fault that this happened, I cannot expect the transporter to go off route to get her, have those problems and then have to get back on route to deliver the mare already on the trailer...because it was also not his fault that he was told she was a good loader and there would be no problem loading her....so he is out the gas spent and time spent for the extra travel off route if he were not picking her up. Also, the contract I signed...I am entitled to no refund for this situation and he is refunding some of the money.

Being trailer shy is one thing...never having been loaded is one thing, having a fear of a trailer is another thing but rearing up and risking harm to herself as well as the transporter and the caretaker....that is a completely different story. Most transporters would have used a lariat, hit her or manhandled her making her stress and making the whole trailering incident a bad experience that she would never forget....he did not do that to her, he refused to do anything like to her..

Most importantly...even though we have yet to meet...I trust Joleta and her instincts. She is not a knothead or stupid horse, even Boni said she is the smartest horse she has there, if Joleta refused to get on that trailer then I have to trust in her that it was just wrong for her to get on the trailer...be it the other mare, be it the darkness, be it Boni not there, be it she sensed something the humans around her did not...

Sooooo now we trry again.

Well I am off to the school to smack some heads together and then to an appointment with the County Attorney over the school....

more on this later.... wish them luck because I am NOT happy....
