You may want to make yours taller than 16" since you deal in mostly large fowl. Mine were more for bantams. As you can see, my leghorn hen is about as tall as it'll hold. Since it is a 2' square, and you use 2' wire, you can make the walls as tall as you want

I've seen ghetto's my dear lady, and that is no ghetto!! Trust me! A little paint and you've got it made! And I would love to go digging around in your junk pile any day of the week!!

Is that a set of roof trusses I see lurking under all of the partial sheets and pallets and such!?!? Girl! What are you doing? Get those buggers out and start building yourself a BIIIIG old coop!!!
gig.gif
Daaang! What's the span of those! Looks to be anywhere from 10 to 12 feet at least! My eyesight ain't what it used to be, but it looks to me like you have every bit of 20 or more of those! Set those 24 or even 16 inches on center and you're going to have a very respectable sized coop! Indeed! Indeed! Indeed!!

Come on Kathy! You're killing me over here!! Build SOMETHING with those!

Well, I said I doubted that Abby would make it to sundown, and I was right. God grant you peace my sweet little friend. You will be sorely missed. I checked on her a little before 2:00 this afternoon. She was still with us at that time. I went in to lay down for a bit to get rid of one of those head aches [Cyn, I know you know what I mean] and when I got up about an hour later, she was already gone.

Dear Denny had gone in to check on her about a half hour after I had and says that she gave one last sigh as he was petting her in the nest box, and then was gone. She's with Gimpy and Lacey now, and all of my other wonderful ladies that have gone before her. She was laid to rest in the little grave yard out in the woods. Denny said that FussyButt, Clarissa, Brewenna and even Chief followed him to the grave site and watched over him as he laid her to rest.

A final farewell to their sister? Perhaps. These old girls of mine are a very tight knit group. It's Chief's presence that puzzles me the most. I know he really liked Abby. She was the first one of the old girls to approach him last spring. And while he was growing up, she seemed to be snuggled up to him at night more often than not.

Somehow, these so called "dumb animals" know so much more than they are given credit for by humans. Pfft! More like "dumb humans" for thinking we're the only ones capable of emotion, or can perceive the loss of a loved one. But here I'm preaching to the choir, aren't I?

*sigh* OK, she's gone. I have to pull myself together now and move forward...............

I got some really cute pictures of Maggie and the girls tonight as they were getting ready for bed.

Boy! That little girl leaves nothing to chance Kathy! She and her girls were the very first ones into the coop tonight, I'm sure because she wanted to get the best pick of sleeping quarters for her and the girls! She finally settled on nest box #1 south. I'll have Denny keep an eye on where she roosts each night. If it looks like she's going to keep with that one I think I'm going to make some small changes to it to better accommodate her and the twins. Things are a bit tight in there even now, and we all know how much growing these girls have to do yet. I swear, I don't think she'll let them go even when she goes broody again. They're their own little flock right now!

I'll try to get the pictures posted later tonight.

Thanks for letting me rattle on about my Abby folks.

Awwwww, Amy, I am sooooo sorry Miss Abby is gone.

May she rest in peace. Darn it. It is so hard to lose a pet. They become family members.

Yes, those are trusses. The are 10 ft wide. I have 13 of them, I believe. I plan to build "that" coop next spring. It came from a garage that Brock and I tore down, for the lumber. I have a bunch of 2 x 6s that are 14 or 16 feet long, too. It is 2x4s that I am always short on. I use them up quickly. OMGosh, what am I talking about ...... I need to stop this coop building, and simply cut down!

Again, Amy, my condolences.

Amy I am so sorry about Abby but I am happy she is has gone on to search for heavenly bugs with those waiting for her. As for Chief...not so surprising...he was her protector and he did his job till the very end. He is a good boy.

They are not dumb animals and we have all been blessed with being witness to some touching things these creatures do...we have seen them love, be happy, be sad, be sick, be hurt and grieve. They are small animals who seem to exist for that daily scratch and to act goofy with their butts in the air most of the time...scratching and searching...but there is much more to them and we know it.

I am so sorry and I am glad she went peacefully with her Daddy patting her.

Well after a long frustrating day of work I come home expecting my incubator waiting for me. Well I find I have 5 overdraft notices from the bank and a empty porch.
hit.gif
I almost cried. Within 5 minutes my phone rang and it was my nextdoor neighbor and she had my incubator. She was afraid her dog would snag it off my porch. I almost cried again from being happy! As far as the overdrafts the bank didnt deposit my money on saturday like they were suppose to and didnt deposit it till tuesday. So tomorrow being Veterans Day they will hear from me first thing friday morning
