Aw, how cute! Darn dellies and their mind control. The closest i have is the dellie/rock girl.......she stares at me every time i go into the garage......I know she is waiting for some scratch...little booger....that batch needs to move outside. Must make easy pen......
So I have an interesting situation with my 'new' broody barred cochin lady. She has laid at least 2 possibly 3 eggs since "going broody". Today she really wanted out of the brooder and her eggs were a little scattered in the nest box. I left her in there and when I came hom tonight she was sitting with them all tucked nicely underneath......But there was an egg under there! Very strange. She acts broody.....but is still laying? She is on a BUNCH of eggs....like 14 or somthing ridiculous like that. No idea.
I checked under the 2 girls whose eggs are due this weekend. 21 days is technically sunday night......but I often have early hatches, so we'll see. Nothing pipped so far. I may recheck tomorrow night! Babies!
The momma with babies is at the "funny stage". I go into the garage and a bunch of baby chick heads come popping out of her fluff. Hilarious.
Kathy, have you ever considered making a "big" coop out of those premade fencing panels? I think you could take 3 of those and make a nice 'run in', add a roof and then build the front wall from scratch to have a big door, nestboxes, windows, etc. If i had a darn flat spot left in my yard, I would definitely do one of those. Those panels are usually less than $50 each, so for about $200-300 you could have a decent 8x8 coop.

Ya know, funny you mention that ..... at our local lumber store they have huge bundles of those boards (not the panels) that are sitting outside for some ridiculously low price, because they got wet or warped or something. There are lots of them there. I was thinking about what I could do with those. I think they are only 4 or 5 ft long though. I would have to check that. My home depot sells them for under $2 each for the individual 6 ft boards.....every now and then they go on sale for like $1.20 each. I've considered buying them and trying them out on a smaller scale.
I wish someone would give $1000 to buy lumber and make "easy plans". I bet I could make an 8x8 coop for $500 or less, a 4x4 coop for $200 or less, multiple brooders for less than $100, etc etc. I want to make easy DIY plans......

You know what, if they are only 4 or 5 feet tall but really cheap, buy them and make 4x4 trio coops. They'd be perfect for that. Or use them for the bottom portion of a taller coop. Or, or, or......

I love getting free lumber and junk like that. It takes time, though. I am gonna try something with a bunch of pallets. Heck, those are always free ..... everywhere! Some are better than others. Someone got a big "box," from a motorcycle shop and made a coop. I wanna check them out, too. Looked like a nice box, too ..... I think a Harley came in it.

Now on a more serious note...I need your prayers for my sister. (Sheesh this week is never going to end with these troubles)....My only sibling...younger sister called me this evening just before Beth arrived (always nice to greet guests while you are getting off the phone crying)...she has been suffering some horrible headached/migraines then started having double vision and nausea...well they did a CAT scan and an MRI and she got the results today...she has 3cm sized mass on her brain in the cavernous sinus. Which is basically located in the front of the braid next to the pituitary gland globe nerves and arteries including the internal carotid artery. She is seeing a neurologist tomorrow for an MRA and more labwork.
This is my only sibling and the younger sister...please pray for my sister Cindy...I would gladly take her place if I could or fix this...as I have always "fixed" everything all of our lives.
Beth was a blessing of comfort and strong hugs as I got off the phone and explained. I am glad she was here with her quiet strength so I was able to pull it together, find positive thoughts and energy and pull it together for a great visit with them and not alarming Cheyenne.
I know the Creator will not give me more than I can take but...he is pushing it hard this week. *sigh*
