Yes i made them...I think i even have a thread on here somewhere about it....lemme dig it out LOL.

I originally planned on making very simple "night boxes" to hook onto the wire fencing to make these rooster pens......just never go around to it. They've been stacked up on my back deck since the last time I used them MONTHS ago.

Wow, the things you can miss on this thread in one night!!

Kathy- he is so sweet and I can see his mama loves him!

NellaBean- How many broodies do you want to be able to hold in the building?

Wow, I went to bed early and you folks have cyber-built a Shangri-La for broodies while I was gone! I am itching to build something again, but Tom would kill me right now if I suggested it. Kes, our old dog, has been asking to go out several times a night and she won't come to me, only to her daddy.

He's worn out from going up and down the bsmt stairs. We really need a stair-less home, or just a couple steps and one where you don't have to go through a bsmt to get into the back yard.

I feel weird. Was building up to raising a few Delawares over winter. Now, no chickies. I may have empty nest syndrome, LOL. In early spring, I want to get some Barred Rock eggs from Kathy and Scott and some blue Rocks from halo to build my layer flock back up. No idea who I'll lose before Spring. Sunny, my 5 yr old Buff Orp, is so bone thin, it's scary, and she should be a big girl. She's molting, but is eating fine, I think. The old ladies get supplemental protein, yogurt, etc just because of their advancing age.

Sweet pics of Brittney and Kayson.

Now if only there was a vac for BYC addiction...

Alright today marks Day 20 of this hatch.....went out to check this morning. 9 healthy peeping babies under the RIR/Cochin. 100% hatch! She had 10 eggs and the 10th hatched and apparently fell out of the nest and got wedged behind it. It isn't stiff but looks dead....i brought it inside with me and have it under a heat lamp to see if it will bounce back. Either way, 100% hatch is awesome for her as a first time broody.

Silkie had 5 chicks and 1 egg. So, 80% hatch! 5 of 6 ain't bad....and its not over yet...although i expect that last egg wont hatch, it has no pips or anything. Either way, she has a blue, a splash, a couple blacks and I think a yellow one.

I got pix but it'll take a minute. There are some really cute chicks in this batch. I love mutt chicks, they come out so darn cute!

I know what you mean with the empty nest syndrome. It just seems (around here) I always have chicks, and for awhile I did not (except the larger grow-outs). It was an odd feeling, like I had forgotten something. Glad now that I have these 10 Dellies. I need to get some pictures of them, too. They are sure growing.

About Sunny ..... Ya know, when I sold off my JG girls, one escaped the capture, so is still here. She is molting and just looks awful. I picked her up yesterday, and though she is heavy by chicken standards, she is alot lighter than she was. I think this molting takes a tole on some of these girls. My gal is 14 months old. She is living in the rabbit hutch coop with Leggs. Leggs is a big ol' scaredy cat, so I knew she wouldn't be bothered with him. They don't even roost together. She sleeps at one end, and he at the other.

When I let the kids out this morning, I see Frenchy (BCM roo) was bloody from his comb, on his hackles. Then I noticed that Barney (the only BR I have from Horstman) roosted in with the Marans last night. My guess is that they had a little altercation.
