Thats what I was checking, its day 23 and the one hatched and its been a few days, so I was trying to check for viability...

Did I do wrong?

Now now people.........I might harass broodies incessantly, but I do not bother eggs while incubating! Live and let live! Incubate and let hatch! Do not remove eggs, do late candling, poke holes, shake, pray over or dance around those eggs! Leave those little boogers in the incubator and let em cook! It will not affect the hatch rate in a POSITIVE WAY, knowing if there are viable chicks in there. You will know if there are viable chicks in there when they all hatch out or the eggs stink. Especially under broodies. They know best. I had left that one last egg under the silkie just in case...it wasn't even techincally due until about midnight last night. Well guess what....as of this morning the hen had abandoned it. She knew best. I will not candle or open the egg, it will go straight into the trash.

I don't consider lifting a broody's chest off eggs to be detrimental to the hatch....its only a few seconds and she does the same thing puffing up to be angry at me. But I sure don't pull the eggs out and shake em around or toss them into a bowl of water to see what happens.

Oh, I didn't mean you did wrong. I have no idea. I have never done it before. I have only read about it.

If it is day 23, then that sounds correct, according to what I have read.

Good luck!

Oh!

Yeah, I was getting a bit miffed at the time, especially with one hatched already... so I saw the float test thing and went ahead and checked. I figure if I mess em up, better my own mutt eggs then some I've ordered...

I was very careful, and gently put took them out and put em in the water (100deg ) making sure they didn't get jostled much.

I agree with y'all on the identi-posts that often crowd the boards! And it doesn't happen just here. I couldn't count all the times I've been able to look at a page and see 3-5 threads all on the same subject in other forums! And then of course, you always get those over-panicked pet owner posts that go something like this: "HELP!!!!! MY DOG JUST ATE A MEANTBALL WIL IT DYE??!??!!?!!!!!!111one" and the interior page is filled with nearly nonsensical, unpunctuated babble, and the OP is asked to re-state their question. Lol.

Oh, I have a link for all of you - if you didn't already know about it, you're sure to get a kick out of it.

Well, shoot ..... Brittney and baby don't get to come home today after all. Seems B spiked a temp last night and they want to be sure there is nothing going on with that. And, baby Kayson is a bit yellow, so we are working on that, too.

Oh well, no hurry. They will be home soon.

LadyHawk, Brittney is sooooo excited about the amulet bag. She said she keeps watching for his umbilical cord more carefully now.
