HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Cynthia & Tom! May you be blessed with many more happy, healthy joyful years together. BTW, my DH and I can certainly identify with you on the changing of the plans... I was thinking the other day, "Gee! It used to be so much fun to get in the car and go places -- now we're both dying to get back home after an hour or two. What's up with that?" Maybe DH and I are just getting stodgy in our dotage...

We've been married (as of Sept. 30th) 33 years, so we're almost up to your current record. Again, sincere congratulations!

I think Maggie would be much higher up on the pecking order if it weren't for Dottie. She's a little turd from the word GO! She thinks she's in charge when in fact she's at the bottom of the heap herself. I guess Dottie just figures it's her one chance to blow smoke up someones whoohaa!
lol.png

Maggie for the most part will ignore the evil glares and the growls from Dottie. But when Dottie decides to jump on Maggie's head, then enough is enough and Maggie will come out fighting. She'll certainly fight for the nest box or roost that she wants, whenever she wants it. But if it's something that she doesn't really care about, then she'll make way. I think most of the time Maggie doesn't care about the situation enough to stand up to Dottie. And Dottie is more than happy to delude herself into thinking that she's gotten one over on Maggie!

Flock dynamics....an endless source for amusement, confusion and conjecture. Who knows what really goes on inside of those little feathered heads!

Tell Mike that I wish you guys could see her in person. The camera doesn't do her justice!

She has these wonderful little flecks of white at the very tips of her beard and muff feathers. They look just like little individual snowflakes.

So completely fitting for a little girl who now lives in the snowy north country!

You know y'all are welcome to come up and see her any time!

I am NOT telling him that. When he is working in Wyoming, he may get the idea that he is close enough to run over your way to see them, instead of coming home on his days off!

Hey now! There's an idea! Wyoming is only a few hours east and south of us! Why don't you do a run with Mike the next time he's coming to Wyoming and then the two of ya pop on by. You could see not only Maggie and the girls, but the house first hand as well!!!!

What fun we could have! You and Mike are more than welcome to spend the entire weekend if you like! Just let me know when to expect ya!

Alright, tried a little experiment today. Since LH's bantam cochin hen was tossed to the wolves, I mean put out in my mottled flock.....her babies were all alone. Wouldn't it be nice for her babies and the RIR/Cochin babies to share the entire brooder with their momma? Yep. So sweet.

LOL. And then came the actual removal of the baby gate. And the utter chaos that followed. 4 week old chicks are apparently dire threats to her 2-3 week old chicks lives. OMG, better kill them all. She was rampaging around, chicks were flying and screaming. It was hysterically ridiculous and horrible at the same time. I stuck the gate back in and then spent a few minutes getting the right babies on the right side of the gate and all was well. GEEZ louise. It is hilarious that she knows HER blue chick from the bantam cochin's blue chick. She flung the "wrong blue" chick across the brooder like it was a frisbee, poor little thing.

Once everyone was back separated, all seemed well. Everyone got an evening meal, I refreshed shavings in the mottled cochin hutch and closed half of it of to help with warmth. All the ladies seemed to be getting along just fine, and the ex-broody bantam cochin hen was fine and dandy.

Closed off the windows of the big coop since it was breezy and COLD. Spitting snow but not sticking.....but I have the windows at roost level to help with heat in the summer....so they got closed up for winter today finally.

Dismantled the broody pen that was still set up in the driveway/carport area. I may or may not even make it now. I think I am going to start just combining broody babies in a week or two....and tossing the moms back to the flock. It's a lot easier to have a single large batch of babies than 4 small batches with moms. Because of the hawk problems, I don't expect to be able to move the kids out for at least another month or two, and that will have to be a covered pen.

Remember when I was losing all of those birds to hawks? Ever since I put the scarecrows up, I haven't lost any. Very interesting. No idea if the birds just got smart or if they are actually helping.

Spent some time scrambling eggs for the chickens tonight. I have a ZILLION extra eggs, so will be scrambling a huge batch every few days until I get down to maybe 10 dozen or less LOL.

Can't believe the weekend is almost over! Yuck. Another week at work. Another day, another dollar. Maybe a buck fifty if I'm lucky.

I also closed off the windows today. How? Newspaper and duc tape. I made a mistake that I learned to regret from Cyn's advice... ventilation at roof or floor level, not at roost level. All mine are exactly at roof level.

My bad! Sorry chooks!

Well I know that I'm not SUPPOSED to care about post count... eh... but... I just hit 2,000.

) to celebrate! And I hate kiesh.

I also learned today that all this time I've been spelling laid wrong lol... I've been saying layed... HOW, after FIVE YEARS, to I just now realize this? Why hasn't anyone corrected me?

And I get my brinsea octagon eco 20 for Christmas, yay!

And Nella, I'm with you, that was the shortest weekend EVER. Sundays are supposed to be a day of rest, but to me they're a day of stress, homework I've procrastinated on, being bummed that I don't get to be home tomorrow, and not seeing anyone because everyone's at church. Including my girlfriend. Ahhhh. Sigh.

First of all....Janelle what is this treason you are talking? My girl a racist? There is obviously something wrong with the black ones...LOL Who knows but I did not teach her that and I shall correct it when she relocates. Unacceptable!

Cyn that joke was hysterical...

I hope you and Tom had a nice anniversary. Congrats on the 35 years.

Update on Sarah...she is doing well. She texted me this morning saying

"Good Morning a man am I one sexy biotch this morning!"

I replied "Send me a picture of this sexiness"

She did and all I could reply with was "And just what effect were you going for with that eye womand side of your face...and why does it not match the other side....poor makeup job woman!"

She was whimpering last night that the local was wearing off and she could begin to feel her face...then she elaborated that she does not do pain...so I informed her to suck it up that she could handle because she has had children and is married and therefore she already knows pain.

So she is coming along but Janelle your dad is correct...she is very lucky. I am considering her one of our holiday miracles....I am hopig that my sister is our other one.

My sister's first appointment at the Mayo is at 7:30 in the morning so I will keep you all posted as I know more.

Jo is doing great...she has won over both Gary and Ginny, my neighbors, they think she is amazing too.

DH said she was full of Piss and Vinegar when I did not show up to feed her this morning and instead it was he and Cheyenne. She snorted, pranced and pitched a little hissy fit and would not touch her food until they had walked away. LOL So, I will not send them again...I will feed her tomorrow again but I felt so bad this morning I asked hubby to go for me....she was not pleased nor impressed with that arrangement. LOL

Spring Fling update - I am looking at the end of April....and working on plans with DH's Cadet Corp schedule....I want him to be here for the get together too. So...more on that later...
