Happy Anniversary, Cyn and Tom!!!! And many more to come!!!!

Kathy- I BET Floozy was upset. It's the end of her shenanigans for sure!

Amy- I love when the hens snuggle up to the roo like that, too - it's actually really romantic in my eyes- I swear Ultrasuede's chest swells at least a third again size when Katia hides her head in his feathers, he gets SO studly and proud about it.

Cyn that story is HILARIOUS! Happy anniversary!

Kathy, I actually slept until 10:30 yesterday, which is SO unlike me. I usually go to bed at around 2:30 am and wake up at 7:30, even on weekends. But sleeping in is NOT like me. My mom ran in checking to see if I was alive

OMG... I left the chicken's run door and coop door open last night! Shoot! I woke up and heard clucks coming from the back door

Luckily the coyotes that lurk in the park at night weren't around!

Along with my job at the feed store, every Sunday I go to a local restaurant where parrots, toucans, and other various exotic birds (legally in the USA) live. I run a bird show from 11:00-2:30 telling people about the birds, letting them hold them etc. I've been doing it since 2007 and once a dove flew under a car, a McCaw got HIT by a car and two McCaws flew down into a parking lot. The bird was saved, the mccaw died in a vet ER, and I caught the others'. Now the restaurant knows to remember to clip the darn bird's wings! I'll be going there today.

Who from Sdwd is doing the new years hatch with Mahonri? What are you hatching?

Also, I have decided that I am giving out a copy of "Living With Chickens: Your Guide To Raising Your Own Backyard Flock" to every family. I'll be spending so much money! But I care more about chickens getting good homes then my earnings. I added a little about treating disease that the book doesn't include at the end of each copy. Just small things, like iodine for fowl pox, etc. I also included Cyn's ten commandments of good flock management

And of course a link to BYC!

Tom thinks Nugget is now set to go so he gave her the three eggs. She was in Nest #3 this morning, Panda's favorite, and won't leave. Panda, who usually pounds Nugget to get her to leave the nest, is now backing away from that angry feathered beach ball, LOL. If Panda is scared, I think we're good to go. Panda has raised her own babies, so there's no mistaking Nugget's intentions. She will have to be moved at some point, though, since this nest is raised and the babies would fall out, but Becca, Tom's girlfriend, is in the broody pen with her bare molting bottom, toasting herself under a heat lamp.

The temps will be in the teens for the next week, so till Becca's butt is covered with feathers, guess she'll spend her nights in there.

Wow, 35 years! Congrats Cyn!

Alright Scott, here are some pix of the dellie/rock girl.

Remember I mentioned the Blue Brahma Project birds? Here is the oldest, a rooster.

One of the girls. Great color.

In comparison, blue on the left is my blue cochin hen that has a pea comb, blue on the right is the blue brahma/cochin

The younger rooster. I have a girl with the same coloring and feathering as well, but didn't get a pic of her

And a girl with beautiful coppering around her neck. She looks like a blue copper.

Interesting birds. Might be worth hunting down a Light Brahma rooster to cross over these girls.
