aaawwwwww what a cute baby Cyn. That Nugget is such a mama. She just loves having those babies doesn't she?

Almost dry and fluffy, too. A new breed would be great. I love how "she" is looking at the camera.

Well, here I am, late to the party as usual. Sorry I missed everyone for pretty much the last two days. It's the holiday season. What more can I say?

Cyn, that is just the cutest little fuzzy butt goober I've seen in quite some time. Definitely can see Ike's influence in those eyes! Them are Del eyes for sure!!! But you're going to have to refresh my memory on what breed little Riley is. I'll be darned if I can remember.

Inkheart: Knox, thank you so much for the very nice PM you sent me. And it really did my heart good to hear such kind words in that moment. Things have been hectic around here for the last few days, and I haven't had time to respond. But I wanted you to know that I did indeed get your PM. I'll respond tomorrow when the hour is not so late and I've actually gotten myself something that resembles a good nights sleep!

Nella, I just love your new kitty!! She looks nearly identical to what my Humphrey Penelope did years ago. What a great little cat she was.

You said that the other day all she seemed to want to do was sleep all day and all night? Is she still sleeping an inordinate amount, even for a cat? It could be on account of her having just had her surgery. Every time DeeDaa has had shots or when she was fixed, she'd sleep for days. Some cats just don't take well to being pricked and prodded. Keep us posted on how she does. She's such a cute little thang!

News from the home front: I managed to get the worst parts of the big coop cleaned today. Tomorrow will finish up that job and then start in on putting something together for them so that they can take dust baths in pure DE. DH put a deep sink in the pump house for me where the old washer used to be!

Hot and cold running water just for my babies!!!

Let me tell y'all. It sure beats the heck out of taking their water buckets all the way into the bathtub in the big trailer for cleaning and filling.

Got the boys coop cleaned from top to bottom today as well. But heck, that's just a little bitty 4x4 coop. I can usually be completely done with that one in about 15 to 20 minutes. Oh if only I could say the same for the big coop.

So, I'm heading for bed folks. There are a lot of things I'd like to get done tomorrow and if I can get to bed now, I just might have a chance of getting up early enough to accomplish all of it! Merry Christmas everyone. I hope y'all had a great one. Stay warm, stay safe, and don't forget to hug your chickens!

She still sleeps a LOT. She is quite lethargic. Unfortunately, not knowing any behavioral history on her, I have no baseline to compare to. On the one hand, she is eating really well, drinking, pooping and peeing. She will purr when you pet her. But she just does NOTHING. You can literally pick her up and carry her somewhere, set her down. And she will stay in that spot until you move her again.

She is staying in the extra bedroom (where the bunny cages live) when I'm not around....gotta keep her safe from the dogs and give her some peace from the evil cat Norman. I have the big cat scratcher in there in front of the window and she likes to sit in it and look out the window..it faces the backyard where the chickens are, so she has a good entertaining view.

I went and got her out of the bedroom when I got home tonight, stuck her on the couch on the green blanket......she stayed there all the way up until I moved her, probably an hour or two. At that point, I put her in my lap.

She stayed there for quite some time...i even covered her with a blanket for a while, ended up pulling her up to lay across my chest and arm, half covered by the blanket....and she laid there and slept for an entire movie.

Keep in mind, she spent over a month in the shelter. It is a typical "old school" shelter, not one of the fancy ones. So she spent a month in her little metal cage. My house has 3 big dogs, a little dog, 1 evil cat and 2 bunnies. It might be a bit of a culture shock LOL.

In reality, I have no idea how old she is...shelter said 1, judging by her teeth i say older than that....vet said 3-5. I have no idea if she was a house cat or a barn cat. I don't know if she is so quiet because she spent her life as a house cat and this is no big deal to her......or if she is just so happy to be inside in a warm safe house she is staying under the radar so to speak. No idea. She will purr and obviously "enjoy" attention. Sometimes she meows when you "talk" to her. She has smacked the dogs a few times when they got annoying, and she will growl at Evil Norman when he is a jerk.

So who knows? She already had a checkup at the vet and he said she looked great other than the ear/balance issue. She doesn't "play"....but is eating up a STORM and using the litterbox well. She loves her stinky cat treats too.

I realllllllly hate to admit it, Nella..... cuz you know I am not a cat lover .... but Lucy really is cute.

Oh GAWD, I can't believe I said that. Yes, Nella, she is a perty little thing.

Hmmm, I should take a picture of our cat. I always forget to do that.

Amy,
Did you say you are gonna make a pure DE dirt bath? I thought that would be too dusty for them, and they would inhale it. Am I confused on this? I have a big ol tractor tire dirt bath area. It is filled with about 1/2 dirt, 1/4 sand, and 1/4 DE. I also add wood ash when I have it from the fire pit. Lately I also add spices to the mix, too. Ya know what I noticed? They never poop in their dirt bath. Have any of you noticed that?

Can hardly wait for the update on Cyn's hatch. Hope to see Delaware pullets.

One Delaware hatched last night. Candled the other one and sadly, it's gone. So, Nugget will have three D'Uccles, one Del and one Del cross baby to raise. The Del is still in the bator fluffing out. Comb is teensy, so maybe a girl. Last one from my hen Ellie was a girl, so maybe I'm in luck here!

We have about 5" and it's still snowing lightly. Expect to have 6" before it's finished. Cold, too, about 21 this morning. Good thing Nugget is so big and fluffy and can keep all her babies warm.

New pics of Riley's baby. Thought at first it might be female, but dang it, it has a head spot. The only female chick I know of Riley's did not have a spot on her head, but Bandit, the one I recently rehomed, did have a small spot there; he was also black and Tom said this baby is gray-looking. I had to remove some of the red since he didn't turn off the red lamp in there so the color isn't that easy to tell, except that it is not black.

I bought some DE but was afraid to use it with the "do not inhale" signs. Nella, she sure looks cozy, sorry she's lethargic.

Oh Cyn! That's so cute! She looks so proud... and... FAT!
