that's impressive to see a dog like THAT not eating that chicken outright

I would 100% trust Frankie alone with the chickens. Molly? Not so much. She is fine with them......but i wouldn't trust her alone with them any length of time. She is too young and they are FUN. She hasn't shown any interest in eating them, but she is too young and excitable about things like that. Frankie, not interested in eating them. He wants to bark at the neighbors all day instead.

Great pics everyone...my big beast is scared to death of the ducks and steers clear of the chickens courtesy of some lessons he was taught by Thor. LOL But he watches them and alerts me if something is going on that should not be. The tiny menance loves the chickens and they peck him. hahahaha

Thanks Kathy. He is spoiled rotten. We tske him to the Family Farm and Home store all the time when we go and he knows the routine.... go in the door and sit by the person standing at the register and get treats. They love to see him there!

Nella, like I said I don't trust him but he is pretty good. It's the little chicks that run and jump around that he really cannot be trusted with. My other dog is only 10 pounds and he is scared of the chickens.

That we have...she is something special for sure. She showed Sarah's husband her pouty lip today. I walked him down to meet her when he brough food for their chickens that are residing here for the winter. I had no carrots for her...she dropped that lip and pouted then stuck her nose through the gate nudging the "carrot pocket" then looked up and pouted again. He busted out laughing.

Also, since I was running errands in town today she did not get her walk so that brought on some moments of pouty lips tonight but I promised her a much longer walk tomorrow to make up for it. She is really being a good girl in the stall, very clean and particular...she loves going for her morning and evening walks...not sure if it is more getting out and exercising or if it is all the one on one attention she gets that makes her like the walks more.

We gave each other great gifts then in this exchange because she is a blessing in more ways than I can express right now. I was so upset not seeing her for three days...DH would not let me outside in the nasty cold cold and blowing snow...he and Chy took care of Jo those three days and she was as happy to see me as I was to see her. I hate being kept away from her and as soon as DH left for his week with the Cadets....I was outside with Jo. LOL

Well update here. I have 9 Partridge Rocks in lockdown in the hatcher.. The incubator is officially turned off. It has been running none stop since I got it, lol. I got to counting yesterday and I started out with 16 chicks in April of this year and now I have 49 and then add what hatches out of this bunch. oh my!! I have to say its been eggciting. Mom got me a box of like 250 egg cartons for part of my Christmas and they are much needed.

LH: lawd woman I can't tell you how sorry I am that you are going through so much. It seems to never stop. I'm gonna have to come move in and feed you up!! Sending prayers and good thoughts your way. If you need anything just holler. We need to get together it seems like forever.

Nick: So sorry to hear about your Grandma. I too lost my grandmother in a car accident. There isnt a day that passes that I don't miss that wonderful lady. Most of all I think about all the mischief we got into and laugh. Always remember the good times, and remember you have friends here if you need to talk.

Love the dog pictures!! My Cole doesnt pay a bit of attention to my chickens, lol. He sometimes goes and looks at the chicks in the brooders in the kitchen and just as quickly walks away, lol.

I'm in zone 8. My favorite varieties are Nevada for lettuce (cold and heat resistance), Mirai for corn
(the tenderest, sweetest corn ever) and Homestead and Celebrity tomatoes. Other than that,
I buy seeds in bulk from the feed store. They have the varieties that do best in our area, and I
see no difference in the "generic" often OP variates of crops of these than the
priceier seeds of hybrids sold in catalogs...spinach, carrots, beans, greens...all seem about
the same in taste and productivity.

I do not do roses, but love camellias. They are the rose of the south, without any disease or fungus
and give us color in the fall and winter.

I always start my own plants. Much cheaper than buying started... I'll be starting peppers
in a week or two, tomatoes in a month. Almost everything else I direct seed.
I grow almost all our veggies and fruit (I buy mushrooms, bananas and asparagus).

Chickens and gardening are my passions
