I am thankful for our wood stove and it helps too that we have 40 acres of woods.

The Queen is done downsizing for now! I will have 37 adult birds on the property as of next week. All done downsizing til Springtime.

The Reject Ranch thing is a running joke....my animals are always rejects. Welcome to Reject Ranch!

I just attract the retarded ones.....

Kathy, I gots a question for ya. Do you have, or did you at one time have, BLRW's? I was looking at some pictures of some breeder quality roo's and hens today. OMG! What a beautiful bird. I think I'm definitely still in love with that breed as far as appearance goes. Going on the assumption that you do/did have some, what are they like personality wise?

I have one girl that I'm pretty sure is pure Blue Wyandotte. That would be GeeGee. Anyhow, she is so much like her father [Griffin] that it's ridiculous, and it got me to wondering if the personality of Wyandottes is a fairly standard thing. Like the Del's are known for being friendly.

Are Wyandottes known for being standoffish? Remember, I had to get rid of Griffin because of conflicts between his personality and my own. I wanted him to be sweet, loving, gentle and kind to both me and the girls. He just wanted to be with the girls, and have nothing whatsoever to do with me!

Anyway, just wondering what your experiences have been with the breed.

I have a trio of them. AND, they just started laying this week ! ! ! Not flighty or standoffish, that I have noticed. Then again, I don't spend alot of time with them either. Beautiful birds they are, for sure.

Oh yes! To be very sure! Drop dead gorgeous birds when they have good breeding. Heck, even some of the hatchery birds are still pretty. But you can sure tell a breeder bird from a hatchery bird! There's just no comparison. Where did you get yours from Kathy? Post some pictures of them would you please dear. Whenever you get the chance. There's no hurry. I just like drooling over them from time to time.

I sure wish GeeGee were more friendly. She's such a big, fluffy, pretty girl. It seems to me that a girl that pretty should be sweet. Nope! Not that girl! At least not to me. And I don't understand it. She's always been that way. From the time she was just a wee bit of a thing, fresh out of the incubator. I guess she didn't get the ha-ha part of that whole moving to the brooder thing.

She just doesn't want to have a thing to do with me. She'll snuggle up nice and sweet with just about anybody in the coop. Gets along great with everyone. Just doesn't like me I guess.

OK, I'm rambling.....running out of what little steam I had for today. Hope y'all stay warm and snug. I've seen the forecasts for the southern states and y'all look like you're swiping my snow! You may borrow it, but I want it back, you understand?

Thank heavens for wood heat, and 10+ acres of trees from which to harvest any time we need to. We'll be back in the deep freeze by this time Monday night, from what I hear on the news.

y'all take care. I'll catch up with ya tomorrow.

We're 11 degrees this morning and expecting several inches of snow tonight and tomorrow. I hate this winter! My jaw hurts in the cold. Hope I can hold out till Feb 3 for my root canal. And that's Tom's b'day. Guess he's getting me a root canal for his birthday, poor guy.

This morning sometime really early, while sound asleep, I felt someone punch me in the shoulder and I cried out in surprise. Then my DH woke, saying something like "oh, oh, oh! " I said "You hit me!". His answer: "Bees were on me! Have to get the bees off!", obviously dreaming. If he'd done that earlier, when I was laying on my back and not facing away from him, he'd have hit me right in the nose or the left jaw, where the painful tooth is. Then, he might have been facing an angry wife attacking him instead of bees! Many years ago, I woke to him kicking me. He was fighting someone in his dreams and delivered a karate kick to his poor sleeping wife.
