That picture just cracks me up Kathy! "Well Helloooo BOYS!!!"
or "Decisions, decisions, decisions! They're all so handsome. How is a girl supposed to choose?!?"
Hmmm...this is strange. I know Cetawin said something about a YouTube video of DeeDee that she shot just for me, but I'll be darned if I see it anywhere! Oh LaaaaddyyyHaaaaaawk!! Did you get waylaid somewhere along the line? Inquiring minds want to know!
Knox, we were cool way before Julia Roberts!
I just wanna know, if she's so great and wonderful and bright and all of that happy crap...how come it took her so long to find out about chickens?!?!?
To me, 30 seconds after getting my first dozen chicks, it was a no brainer! These are by far the coolest pets I've ever had! And I've had some great pets!
Paid a visit to my local feed store today. I swear!
Every time I go in there, the price of crumble goes UP! What the H-E-Double Toothpicks is up with that? No kidding! Every single time! It just keeps going up and up and up and up!!
I bought a bag of rolled oats to see how the gang would like them. Pffft! I shouldn't have fretted so. I keep forgetting, these hooligans never met a food they didn't love!
Gloria, I still have a few of the girls who are still sneezing and shaking their heads, but overall, they're all doing much better. I think it might take a little while longer to rid them of whatever it is that is causing this. I did pick up a new bale of shavings today. Next week the weather is going to be bitterly cold, but sunny, so I'll be cleaning the coop out at that time. Though I don't really think it has anything to do with the shavings in there right now. I put the same shavings in the boys coop and none of them have whatever this is.
If they aren't completely cleared up by next Wednesday, I'm going to start them in on the Tylan 50 injections. That's gonna be a real fun time. NOT! 10 nightly doses of .5 cc each, administered to 19 birds?
Prayers are most welcome folks! I really, REALLY hope it doesn't come to that.
It's not that I have anything against giving my chickens a shot. Good grief! If I could cut Evie's foot open to work on that bumble, I can surely handle a small injection in each of them. No, the problem I have is in using antibiotics at all! I'd so rather see my birds fight off this crud through their own natural immune system than to possibly use the wrong antibiotic. And what if it's the right antibiotic, but not enough of it? Could I be creating a drug resistant strain of virus through improper use of antibiotics? Yeah, it's one of those things that keeps me up at night!
Darn the luck! I didn't get one spare moment to go out and take pictures of the two coops like I said I was gonna.
I made the mistake of trying to take a load of clean wash into Annie's room this morning. I spent the next three hours in there cleaning up her pigsty before I had to shoot out to the base and run all of my other errands. Next week is supposed to be cold but sunny. I'll get pictures then folks.
GeeGee is still holding tight to those eggs!
However, as I was late in getting out to them this morning, and thereby late in getting GeeGee's breakfast to her, she had gotten off of her nest just as soon as I opened the door. Sheesh! I was only about an hour late!
Then I discovered why she was off of the nest. I guess she had some kind of an agreement with Ivy to cover the eggs for her while she went about a much needed break from brooding.
To the best of my knowledge, she hadn't been off of them in at least three days!
She's going to be a great little mama!
Now if I can just squeeze in getting that brooder built and set up in the pump house for her before her eggs hatch!
Kathy? Where did you order your Marek's vaccine from? How long did it take to receive it from time of order to receipt? How much was it? I found out today that Del's doesn't carry Marek's vaccine. Gee! Why am I NOT surprised?!
