Kathy,

OK, we get the picture, literally! Now, get your butt back inside and stay warm!

Dang, but that is a whole bunch of snow!

How is the hatch coming along? How many still in their eggs? How many have fluffed and are ready to go into the brooder? Let's just hope they all make it out and are fluffed before you loose your power. Better yet, let's all just pray that you don't loose your electricity period! Yes, that would be much better, wouldn't it?

Oh crap! But you're doing staggered hatches, aren't you? Ohhh geeesh lady! You never do take the easy way, do ya?!?!?

Yup! You're definitely going to be on my mind all day and all night!

Stay safe Girl. You and the whole family!

Yikes. If the power goes and worst comes to worst, start shoving eggs under broodies LOL. Maybe you can use Tyson as a "heater" for a batch of chicks. I would probably be doing major consolidation of brooders so at least the chicks can huddle for the warmth. A couple of piling deaths are at least better than everone freezing to death. Treat them like the hatchery does.....they can stay warm enough in a small box with hay if there are enough of them.....

The more mass in the incubators the longer they will keep their temp. Start filling up water bottles with warm water, stick them in the incubator and maybe at least they will help hold temp steady for longer if the power goes out.

Do you have an inverter thingy that you can plug into your car cigarette lighter that will give you a few plugs?

Any battery backups for your computer you could use to run a brooder/incubator for a bit? Any "jump start" units that have a battery within (that you would use to jumpstart a car) that can run a small electrical thingy for a while?

Just throwing things out there......

Kathy i had thught of yuo when i saw that Missouri was not doing so well - we had ice - but nothing for most of the day but i fear tonight we are getting what you are sending us - Bubble is at home on her eggs - does anyone think it is a bad idea to put a heat lamp over where she is nesting or will that raise the temps too much in addition to her Del srruogate mom heat? I am freaking abit here at work worrying - i have the barn shut up so there is no windy drafts - BUT
What was Bubble thinking? Dad needs a drink! LOL

Well, at least it looks like the nice light fluffy kind Kathy. Is it? That kind is always so much easier to shovel! Glad to hear you still have your power. Keeping everything crossed and prayers said that you continue to keep the lights on.

Today wasn't bad, but very damp. The wind is howling now and tomorrow's high will be about 20 degrees cooler than today (today is about 50*, but feels much cooler). I woke up with the strangest feeling that something big has happened or is about to happen and I really hate that unsettled feeling. It's just weird.

Nick, I hope you're really enjoying those little Dellie heathens! I miss them and can't wait for the next few to start hatching. I will probably candle some of the BBS Orp eggs from the group that is due to hatch Feb. 17. Just want a couple to be developing, just one or two!

Can't shake that weird feeling, dang it.
