Nick....a piece of advise.

Everyone here is TRYING to be helpful to you. It seems that every time someone wants to make a suggestion or attempt to help, you always have a rebuttal. I'm not sure if your parents allow you to act that way when you are "face to face" with other adults.

If you have your mind made up, then go forward with your plans and we will all wish you the best of luck. But please don't look for help/suggestions/opinions/etc if all you are going to do is re-state your plan, regardless.

All of us here have tried to be very tolerant and helpful by allowing you, a child, to engage us "adults".

This is not meant to be "hurtful" in any way. I would ask that you consider your comments and posts as you are speaking to other adults. Adults who by default, should have your respect. PLEASE try not to be argumentative

Really? I do not mean to sound that way, at all! And I am sorry if I have. I am just trying to figure all of this all out. I am certainly taking everyone's adivce to mind and writing it down as I read this. So, so sorry if it seemed that way! I am not trying to backfire or argue, but I just get confused. I sent both Cyn and Kathy and PM thanking them for the help. I respect, adore and thank each and every one of you. When I read what I say on here, I imagine me saying it in a very friendly way, not a rude way or anything. If I were having this discussion with you all in person now, I would be understanding, nodding my head and smiling. I just try to explain, because I tend to let out a lot of details.

If the rest of you feel that way also, I am SO SORRY. I never meant to be that way.​

Nick, I've met you and I like you; I think you are just bursting with enthusiasm, but sometimes, that seems like you're going off in a million directions at once--you tire me out, buddy, LOL!

If you want layers for a small egg business, Delawares are fabulous. No chicken, except on odd and rare occasions, lays more than one a day, not even sexlinks, so Delawares and Barred Rocks are wonderful. Generally, they take shorter breaks than the Ameraucanas when they molt, it seems to me, but that is a general statement and there are exceptions. Age of the birds also comes into play--they all slow down some as they get older. My hatchery RIR and my remaining hatchery Buff Orp are over 5 years old and still laying, but they lay only about three eggs per week, not daily, and they take longer breaks at their age.

Just think about your space, time and $$ involved and do some math. Then decide which breeds you want and how many your property can handle. I'm looking forward to seeing your new coop you're getting!

Oh, someone wants the blue barred cockerel! A new member who lives near me is coming to get him tomorrow afternoon. So, I don't have to worry about Beau being picked on by that big lug anymore. He was throwing his weight around at just seven weeks old and that wasn't going to go well when he was a big boy and Beau, JoBeth and Lizzie were little peeps still.

I just went out to put vaseline on the roosters and there is a GLW hen in the nest box guarding her golf ball! I hope she isn't going broody yet. She needs to wait till at least March.
