Not actually hot glue, but cauterizing wounds with a soldering iron, works for bad comb bleeds.

Got five boxes of eggs today. They're all unpacked. LH, I'm not sure I can put anymore of Smoky's eggs in a bator.....the total for these batches is 80! I have 80 eggs to set and my turner in Bator #1 holds 42, so I'll be hand turning a bunch of eggs, at least till the first candling. I see quite a few blown/floating aircells in one batch, sadly, but such is the nature of shipping eggs.

My mail guy was so funny this morning. He said, "We have two boxes of potential roosters for you". And the postmaster carefully handed over the two boxes (the other three came on a later truck) and said, " Little babies..we handled them with the utmost care." I know my P.O. did, but the others, you just never know about. I'm just thrilled that eggs from five boxes from four states all got here the same day!

Cyn I am so sorry about lil Molly.

poor Adonis lost his friend. Hug him for me.

You can always bring me an extra bator and the suede eggs and I shall incubate them with the others coming from Beth amd Kathy.

Well, since I have 80 eggs already, what's a half dozen more, right? I'm sure that a number of them will be removed as the candling sessions take place. I have just never hand turned that many eggs, but it won't be for that long.

Oh, forgot to tell you! Beau started crowing this morning! He did very well, actually. So cute!

The little Phoenix is the new Molly. Adonis can't get up on the roost bar like she can so she leaves him down below most of the time, but I'm glad we got her yesterday.

Go Beau! hehe ain't it cute? Almost like having a toy rooster around. I love my boys crowing and Lancelot answering from outside.

I really wanted to do one huge hatch, pick a good group to add to my flock because I know that some of my old ladies won't be here much longer. And I also wanted better quality of birds, not just more in numbers. And the D'Anvers will be an entirely new experience for me--now, I can see how a tiny bird can actually grow and hatch from a teensy-tiny egg like that!

Total: 86 eggs

Doesn't this look like a fun mix??!

10 BBS Plymouth Rocks
8 EE and/or Ameraucana
4 Silver Laced Wyandotte
5 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte
1 Lav Amer x BCM (olive egger)
6 New Hampshires
20 Barred Plymouth Rock *14 from Kathy and 6 from William--hatching in separate bators and receiving ID bands*
14 Buff Orpingtons
12 D'Anvers *5 Porcelains & 7 Mille Fleur*

and finally, 6 BBS Orpingtons, all belonging to Smoky, just in case Adonis is an Addie.

I have to hand turn 44, but at first candling, I'm sure those numbers will be lower in both bators.

I have not hatched nor set any Wyandottes yet, so yours will be the first chicks from mine. I hope they are all fertile. The SLW pen has 3 girls with a roo, and the BLW has 2 girls (1 black 1 blue) with the blue roo. My BRs have been mostly fertile, though I think 1 girl was not fertile for awhile. I hope she is by now. ALL the NHs have been fertile every hatch I have had. I gotta say, those NHs are the most vigorous chicks I have ever hatched. They pip and hatch quickly, too. The BRs I have hatched are always the last to hatch, along with my Dels; often a full 24 hours from pip to hatch.
