I can't explain the research, don't know anymore about the research, nothing I can add to the conversation than I've already said. The vet/scientist that did it and has the evidence is the only person who can shed more light on it. I figure if we knew everything there was to know about dwarfism, if it was all nailed down, no more research would be necessary.

I wish everyone the best of luck with their Delaware projects and hope there aren't too many speed bumps along the way for you.

I just think its so horrible that you have to stop breeding Dels because of this. Any ideas of you'll be keeping Isaac G&E?

Sometimes Nick, the reason each of us keep chickens has nothing to do with breeding at all. Nor even for the purpose of egg production. Many of us view our birds as our friends, as small kindred spirits with which to share our homes, our hearts and our lives with. Just because one, or a number of our birds, may not be suitable for breeding, that doesn't lessen their worth to our hearts.

Isaac is a fabulous rooster, calm, easy to handle, alert , ready and able to defend the flock, and I think pretty darn handsome. The girls are affectionate and good layers. None of them really gives me any problems other than occasionally picking at Ike's comb and wattles. Right now, they're being good about it. So, there are many reasons for them to stay here, other than reproducing themselves.

Indeed Nick..for example Isaac is Willed to my Husband so he can go riding around in the truck with him on his own private roost because hubby adores that boy and all of her remaining birds are Willed to me

Suede of course will take over the third bedroom and be fed grapes by hand while he watches his own flat screen TV or listens to Jazz and get a pedicure and wattle massage while his heathen/defective women can run from Adonis unless Suede calls for them. And Zane will have an addition with a bay window built so he can sun himself at his leisure.

Oh indeed there are plenty of reasons to keep them.

Ike is the perfect gentleman, protector of his flock and his kids all have great personalities. Right there is reason enough to keep him, and for me to keep my girls. I love them to pieces.

All great reasons indeed! In the past week mine have been becoming so much friendlier! Especially Jay. It'll be hard to say bye to him.

It is always that way Nick...the ones you are selling or rehoming always seem to get close to you and your heart before they go.
