Yard full o' rocks :

Evening all! Been busy at this "new job thing".....

Hope everyone is well. Expecting BAD storms here tonight. Just hatched 21 Col Rock chicks that are in the brooder....praying lights stay on as it was my largest hatch to date. Hatched 21 of 23....not too bad.

I also have 16-17 BRs in another brooder (part from Hardy lines, part from Jeremy)...I think they would be alright for a short time without addt heat.

Well, gotta run. Everyone stay well.

Tim - have you candled those eggs yet? Keep us up to date on that hatch

Talk to yall later!

Great to hear from ya, Scott! How is your new job? 21 of 23... That's pretty good! The storm is supposed to be horrible tonight... Don't they know that I have 96 eggs set?? Well, power hardly ever goes out here.

Speaking of Jeremy, I am on his list for some eggs!

Nice to hear from ya!

Hey Scott! Hope all is well with you and yours. Sounds like your Col Rocks are coming right along! Congrats on the hatches, and best wishes for a super flock! I hope your power doesn't go out, and the storm passes by uneventfully.

Tonight at lockup time I found 2 girls on the nest. Same 2 as last night...... 2 more broodies to contend with I suppose. One is a SLW, and one is the Light Sussex that hatched a clutch last year. I will set them up a broody palace tomorrow. That will likely break them.

I am hatching right now (day 21 begins at midnight), and have this many out (I think 22), with many many more to follow. I have been worried because of our power outage of over 5 hours. Well, at least some are making it. Most of these are SLW, and 3 NHs, and a couple Olive Eggers.

I candled! I gave in! LOL. I only candled six or seven eggs. It's only day #3, what has gotten into me?? Honestly, so far, I see nothing in some, floating air cells in some Silkies and some porous eggs. I am not pulling any until the big candle on Wednesday, though. Shoot! My flashlight really isn't bright, at all. Maybe that's it? And for some I believe I was holding the egg upright, not on the side... Excuses, excuses! I can't wait until Wednesday is here!

This is my first hatch with these bators. I hope the next hatch will be better, though I'm not assuming anything about this one. I just need experience with it. Really, right when these chicks move out into the brooders, the incubators are fillin' up for my "pleasure hatching"! Yep, hatching for ME ME ME! And, of course, only keeping my favorites. I am so glad to have someone to go to to take my leftovers! I bet I'll have people wanting be to hatch chicks for them, though, so I'll have to slip a dozen in for other folks, too.

I can't wait for Jeremy eggs, especially!

Bad, Nicholas, very bad! >>>slaps his wrist sharply<<< No more candling till at least Day 7 for newbie candlers!

Dang storms again! I have 44 babies in the brooder, 5 days old. I'm sick of this weather scaring me, first with my bators and now with tiny chicks. When these babies are about 4 weeks old, no more worrying about youngsters for awhile!

Tom ran to the gas station for a few gallons for the generator, just in case.

Scott, we miss you here on SDWD!

He also moved the baby monitor in there from the main coop. It already saved one baby who had gotten itself wedged behind the waterer and was chirping loudly in distress. Needless to say, moved that waterer away from the wall.
