Well, I don't know, Ladyhawk. I have had a couple spraddle legs, and they were WAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY spraddled and could not hardly walk at all. I think yours is gonna be okay, just take some time to get his legs going right.

Well s/he s over 24 hours old...I had to hatch the poor baby, it was too large for the egg and could not get out. It struggled for over 24 hours after the pip and I finally hatched the little fellow.

He runs and does okay but he when he sits or stops, it bothers him more. Almost like he turns his feet inward to balance. I will give him till the afternoon (48 hours from hatch) and I may get out eh bandaids and try giving it some stability and see if it helps.

I only had 1 d'uccle hatch and 2 silkies from the easter hatch and I really do not want to lose the little guy if I can help it. *sigh*

But the bator is loaded again with 24 silkies and 1 of my own project d'uccle eggs...sooooooooo

My Easter hatch is almost finished. 95 made it to the hatcher and 84 hatched, counting the ones still in the process now. 3 shipments going out today. I took 4 Delaware chicks and gave them to one of my broody Silkies and removed her eggs. She seemed awfully happy as she tucked them under her.

LOL that's what friends are for. When your bator is empty they fill it up for you. So im just guessing that DH doesnt know or has been lead to assume they are Sarah's eggs.

OUt of sheer curiosity - what is the difference in temperament and so forth between P. Rocks and Wyandottes ? Any experience between the two on here?

I know it's hard not to help and I still havent' come to that point, but Don Schrider at the ALBC conference said that chicks that take a long time to hatch usually have crooked toes or foot problems. He thinks it due to lack of oxygen. Still I must confess to grabbing a couple on my last hatch and pulling the tops off so they could get out. They'd pipped all the way around but couldn't get the membrane to separate enough to get out.

I have read that it's best to hatch eggs from two or three year old hens. Is there any chance that not waiting until the hens are older is a problem? I plan to set some eggs soon and my Dels are definitely over two. I have decided to use an egg carton or the new plastic eggs holder to prop the eggs up since chicks seem to pip all the way around easier.

Also Cyn - that Gen 1588 your recommended has been really well. Though chicks seems to begin hatching early on day 18. Trylin is hatching some Dels and CR and a couple of her SLW's and they've started early. Well so far only one of her SLW's has hatched. I'm hoping the CR's hatch and the Dels of course. Does anyone else have this problem with hatches starting early? My last hatch was this way too. Took four days and I had to pull the early chicks.

She has two other incu's (LG's I think) I'm not sure what they are but they didn't do so good. Anyhow Cyn thanks for recommending it, it does great.

Glad the 1588 is working out for you, Tim! Never had any hatch on Day 18...19, yes, but not 18. Are you sure you're counting right?

Well, looks like Nugget is definitely going broody. She is clucking and flaring up. When she sits on the nest overnight, then I'll be sure, but dang it, Emily is in the broody pen now. I hope I can encourage Nugget to sit on the nest near the floor and if so, I can leave her in the old ladies' coop. Wish the D'Uccles were laying so I could pop some of Lizzie and JoBeth's eggs under her.
