You did fine for your first hatch, Nick. There is a definite learning curve to it. Even experienced hatchers sometimes have really bad hatches because there are so many variables: parent stock's health, shell quality of the eggs themselves, shipping damage, incubator issues, wrong instrument readings, etc, etc. Your hatch was actually okay for shipped eggs and your first time incubating!

Surprisingly, Lexie is still alive this morning. I really expected to be doing a necropsy by now, but she can't last much longer. Right now, she is standing under a heat lamp (it was 30 degrees this morning!).

Thank you all! I am actually not disappointed. I sent kathy a PM with my step by step method that I plan to use for hatching. She likes it but thinks that I shouldn't grab recovery chicks so often. Kathy, could you post what I sent you? I can't find it.

I ended up with 14 chicks. I hatched two more yesterday, they had been halfway zipped but couldn't come out. I now have another EE and a BR. Will get pics this afternoon.

The BR was too big for the egg and the EE was very sticky. The hatch is finally over. From now on I will call it quits on the end of day 22. I don't like a long hatch.

Poor Reba. I am so sorry Cyn Lexie is like Ivy she just bounces back and hangs in there, buy her and Reba some graoes. They sure gave Ivy pleasure near the end.

Hi all from Dublin Ireland!!!!! The flights were great but I still have jet lag. We will be leaving in the am headed to Belfast. I cant wait to see the countryside!! Dublin is a big city, but im not a city boy, lol. Ive seen horses from a bus and cows from the air, but I want to see some Irish chickens!!! We saw Trinity College and St. Patricks Cathedral today. Its 938 pm here. Got to get use to this time difference. Hope all is well and I will check in when I can.

Amy,
I was just thinking............ Isn't it about time for an updated entry on your BYC page? Hmmmmm????

On another note.....
I sent out 5 shipments of chicks yesterday. 4 have confirmed delivery. I am waiting for the 5th, and I see from tracking that the package IS in the town it was shipped to. I always worry until I hear they have arrived.

The person who said he wanted the extras from this hatch as a group backed out--guess he doesn't think my price is reasonable, but it's less than what the local feed store charges for hatchery stock. Maybe he just realized he couldn't afford it now, who knows? But, now I have this group in BSA, if you know someone who wants some nice breeder stock in assorted breeds:
