You are gonna need breeder pens, too. I hear they breed like ...... or yeah, they are ...... rabbits!

No breeder pens required. you just take the doe and put her in the bucks cage. They do their thing. Remove doe. Repeat. LOL.

You do need bigger cages for doe and kits. But that is why i am making cages that are 4 feet wide with removable dividers. Without the divider they are a good brood cage for a doe and litter. With the divider they are two standard cages for singles.

Now i just need to make them.....

LH....those braz chy 2x4s are a GREAT find. I used to sell Brz Chy flooring and its GREAT stuff. Naturally defensive against bugs....I'd keep 'em and build with 'em!! Also, if your DH is handy with wood, they make beautiful floors, cabinets, etc, etc. They change color with exposure to light and get a deep red/brown color

Wll I am building several things...here is the list:


1. Brooder 2' x 4'
3. Bantam pens/cages 3' x 5' (8)
4. Three large pens in my 10 x 20 coop (2 - 6' x 10' and 1 - 8' x 10') 1 for the layers, 1 for the orps and 1 for bantam cages and little girls
5. Duck houses 1 - 4' x 8' to be split in half for the two breeds

and runs for everything, roosts, nest boxes, etc etc. The coop is also going to be wired for electric so I can installed their AC for summer and heat lamps for winter.....maybe a ceiling fan and big screen tv or a minimum a radio. And I building a "medicine cabinet" to put up on the wall with first aid type stuff in it to go in my big coop.

As it has been, everyone just walks into the coop and snoozes as a massive group. There are two little coops inside there that house the Silkies and whoever else needs to be moved out.

ummmmm those things are hellz to cut through it is tough wood! I am keeping some of them for sure and using them around. I am the woodworker not DH lol I am thinking of making a couple nightstands with them.​

Alright, started construction on the new rabbit cages today. Decided to build a single panel of 3 levels. Each level is 4 feet wide and 30" deep. It will have a removable divider in the middle of each level.....so I can make either two 2 foot wide cages, or a single 4 foot cage.

didn't quite finish. Still need to put the dividers in the middle of each level, and put all the wire on the sides and front, plus a roof.


Started off making the wire floors.

Then the frame.

then combined those together

Then put up the plywood (primed already)

I have the big metal oil drip pans for cars under each level to catch poop and pee. They are only 2 feet deep, leaving 6 inches in front with no tray, but I will be putting ceramic tiles on the wire there with food and water dishes, so hopefully that wont be a problem. You can see a "track" of sorts that they slide in on under the top two levels.

It was SO HOT today and I pretty much gave myself heat exhaustion doing this. I worked for about 3 hours to do the above. Yuck. So it may take a couple more days to get it finished.

These would work for chickens too......

On another note, yesterday we celebrated my youngest son's birthday. Josh will be 21 tomorrow.
