Are you ready for another shipment yet? I have 2 more hatch dates..... June 10 and June 20. THAT IS IT! The only thing I will consider hatching after this is my project chicks. They should start laying soon. With all the dang broodies I have, I may let them incubate for me!

The past few days I have put every single egg in the refrigerator.

Honestly though, the birds have slowed down laying in this heat, AND I am minus all the eggs the broodies are not laying.

I got rid of tons of chicks and grow outs today. Many were roosters. YAY! I kept only 5 or 6 of the Delaware roosters from my Paul Harter purchase. I did not keep the biggest one, as he just didn't look the best. His tail angle was way too high and he seemed "leggy." I kept the girls though. I hate to cull Delawares this young, but I really needed to downsize. I still have a few of my own Dels growing out, and I think they actually look larger in size. We'll see........

I hear that! I know exactly what you mean. I've had to cull on occasion way earlier than normal, just go with my gut and the knowledge I've acquired and pick what I felt would grow out the best and sell the rest to get them out of my feed bill and my space. Have to do what you have to do sometimes. Not everyone has unlimited space, time and money to do these humongous groups and keep them till they're six to eight months old, even if that is truly the best way to pick the best of the best.

OH, my my my ...... it is so dang hot here.

My thoughts are with family and friends in Iowa. I am from a small town there (Missouri Valley), population around 5,000. They, as well as all the small towns in the area, are evacuating and-or preparing for evacuation. Flooding is predicted to be the worst in 100 years, and standing water to still be there in November. It is very very sad. Our home there (oldest son lives there) is safe. It is up on the hill. Our second son has moved all of his family's belongings into our barn style garage. His home will be a total loss, I imagine. Electricity will be cut in "grids." So, though our home is safe, they will lose power at some point. Some of them may end up coming here to Missouri for awhile. Not sure yet.

I sure hope the predictions are wrong.

Oh wow, just caught up and I am praying for your family Kathy. Hopefully things won't be as bad as they are saying.
