Kathy, since she doesn't seem to caree about them, I might take away all but 2 and see what happens. Maybe she is just overwhelmed lol. She may be able to keep track of 2 easier. Or you could try taking them all away and see if she cares. Some just are better at hatching eggs and not so good at caring for babies.

Hello y'all

Kathy - I'm so sorry to hear about all the flooding. I hope your family remains safe. That's the important thing...."stuff" can be replaced. Will continue to lift them all up in prayer

Just back from a LLLOOONNNGGGGG week in Chicago (trade show....my favorite thing, not). My last hatch (until fall) finished Sunday and I got 13 of 13 add't Col Rock chicks. Gives me around 50 so far for this spring. My BRs are growing like crazy!! The few that hatched from the eggs from Jeremey are looking very nice and the ones from the new Hardy line are't bad either. I have 3 BRs (yes 3 out of 30 hatched...uugghhhh) from Kraig Shafer's line that are almost 2 weeks old and I am anxious to see how they develop. He regularly wins with his BRs on the show circuit in the MW.

Stormy weather here this afternoon but we REALLY need the rain. I would love to see us get a few inches.

Gotta go take care of the chooks and pack up the vehicle for the weekend. Colby has a tourney in Austell (about an hour drive from here) on Saturday and Sunday. I just got back from the foot DR and need to go get some meds. Found out I tore my Achilles tendon....just have no idea how. Gonna look pretty funny all taped up, sittin' in shorts this weekend. This "getting older" stuff is for the birds

I trust everyone is well.....hope you all have a great weekend and I'll talk with you soon!!

I hope all is well with your family also. I am going to look into this myself. If my memory is correct and based on what I have heard Carter Lake is ok. Is this correct? Maybe you remember that my roots are there as well.
As far as the broody, let them free, and if does not work then seperate them.
Again I hope all is well with your family. I thought it was interesting that my family is from the same place. You had made my year with the Nhs, then the BRs, also your friendly and generous personality. On top of all that you have a connection to a special place to me. My well wishes will always extend to you and your family. (Also thank you for replying to my son's email). He loves his birds, and is exceptionally gentle with them. I think he just wanted to make contact with you being the source of his birds.

Hi George!
So nice to see you here! You are too kind. Thank you! I have been meaning to get some more information for your son, too. I just have not got around to it yet. I will though! I have some things printed out. I think I will make copies and mail them out to him. It is fun reading!

I am not sure how Carter Lake is making out. That is right next to Omaha's Eppley Airport. I did read that the airport was taking major steps to prepare: http://www.action3news.com/story/14931335/airport-takes-major-steps-to-prepare-for-flooding

So
far my family is all safe. That is really all that matters. Son #2 will lose his house, and they are accepting that. They have everything out of it. I shouldn't say lose it, as anything can be rebuilt I guess. They will not stay there. They are looking for a place on higher ground now.

Hope all is well with your family and your birds!

My last hatch for the season (excluding my projects) is due June 20. I only have 6 New Hampshire eggs in there, and 12 Orps, 2 Barred Rocks, and 4 Delawares. (I had alot of infertile eggs this batch.) I think there are a dozen Jersey Giants and nearly 50 Icelandics in. Now, if I can keep the broodies broke, I will be happy.

I downsized the Silkie pen to 4 hens and 2 cocks (1 boy will be rehomed). I downsized them. Then they upsized! I sent another dozen chicks off to new homes. Down to ONE broody Silkie, just this one.... Silkie mama with a dozen chicks.
