or they learn to open jars of mayo on their own

Well I had that problem but this is what I did. I have two foot chicken wire behind the sticks. They do on occasion get through the gate I made and I have to modify it but only the skinny ones get through. I just thought maybe I should use that for a measure of who to keep. If they're so skinny they can get through the gate then it's off with their heads! I must say it is funny to watch them leap up to get the tomatoes at the top. I figured they could have the ones below but then watched as they jumped to get the ones at the top.

hahahaha, that is a great way to decide who will be a cull.

Speaking of culls..... I am setting up my "processing pen," next week. I think my oldest grow outs are near the age I can decide who the keepers will be. I hope I don't eat the wrong ones.

We are gonna mark the packages with the breed, and see if we notice any breed that tastes better than another. Is that sick?

I'd say just leave it alone Kathy. She has obviously been this way for awhile now, with no detriment to her health. Obviously, as she looks nice and plump in the picture. Like Daddy always said: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

But, if push came to shove and it becomes a problem for her, perhaps her lower beak can be filed back?

I honestly don't know. I do know that birds bound for the egg laying industry often have their upper bill snipped back to discourage any possibility of pecking their fellow inmates or to eat eggs. It supposedly doesn't interfere with their ability to eat. It's a sick practice if you ask me....but there it is.....

Well, the Dellie babies are becoming regular pros at going beddy-bye now. They were waiting at the pop door tonight to be let in from the covered run.

As soon as I pulled the cord to open the door, all three tried to squeeze in simultaneously! Kind of reminded me of something out of an old "Three Stooges" episode!

Of course, once inside, they insisted on being cuddled as, one by one, I put them up in their nest box. After that, it took all of about 2 minutes and they were sound asleep, in a pile, and oblivious to the world around them.

Such sweet little goobers. I'm seriously thinking that Del's and EE's will be the primary composition of my flock from here on out. Somebody has to get started on this Delawegger project ya know!

I kept 4 of the 10 chicks I bought this spring. I kept a variety of colors.
They should be laying soon, I think.
