All the black chicks from the hatch have a new home. Coincidentally, the live about 3 miles up the road from me. They were just thrilled, and had to tour the chicken village. They recently lost their layer flock to a coon. Since then they have beefed up the security on their coop and wanted to start anew. Nice young couple with a 10 year old daughter.

I gave broody mama (BCMarans) the 4 Silver Laced Wyandottes. She hatched one of the New Hampshire eggs, too. So, she has 5 babies and is a happy camper. I moved her into my 4x4 feed storage room in the layers coop. I put a small dog house in there for her to nest in.

Some of the F2s that hatched. Notice the buff near the back. That chick was S-T-I-C-K-Y ! It's a wonder it even made it out of the egg. I did not have my humidity correct on day 20, and that's what happens.

Kathy....when it this big get together? I may need a replacement for Orion but I am so scatterbrained right now I cannot think. Fighting this URI and appraisal on Monday morning blech.

Oh and house guests were giving marching orders by DH this afternoon while I was in town with Cheyenne. Oldest one will be gone in 2 weeks, younger one in 4 weeks. I am not sure what set DH off, I have an idea it was a combination of things because as I was leaving, I saw his jaw twitch and clench and the vein in the side his forehead throb. What happened I believe began last night. As you know I have been sick all week with the URI and have spent my nights trying to sleep in my recliner. When I could not sleep, I would get up and try to do something on my "appraisal list" of things to do. Last night I pulled the refrigerator out away from the wall and cleaned behind it, cleaned the walls in the kitchen and scrubbed counter tops and so forth, then steam mopped my floors and then ncleaned the half bath on the main level. I awoke this morning to raised whispered voices...DH and one house guests were having words...over coffee and sugar being spilled on the counter. So I was thinking "whatever, I will clean it when I get up" So I went upstairs and showered and came back downstairs and hubby and other house guests are having words, so I put on my boots and drug myself down to see the Diva Do. I came back and everyone had dispersed but the sink was full of dirty dishes and bowls and such, so I washed them up. Hubby came in and asked who did the dishes and I said "I did", his jaw clenched and he said OK and off he went outside. So a few hours later I am dragging my big ole steam cleaner down the stairs to do the carpet in the basement that the guys trashed when there was a leak and they were walking on the wet carpet with their boots on. I have been trying to get the carpet in that hall cleaned for a couple of months, well I stumbled down the last two stairs being an idiot and DH was in laundry room and he came running and said "What the hell are you doing?" I said "I lost my footing no biggie I am going to clean this carpet", he asked where house guest Number 1 was and I replied "Upstairs watching a movie" his jaw twitched and he asked where house guests number 2 was and I replied "upstairs with the other one watching a movie" and the vein in DHs forehead started bulging and he snarled at me...."Go get Cheyenne, go to town and get the curtains and rugs you wanted for the kitchen and go now". So I left with daughter. I came home to the aftermath and the final shouts from my husband and I heard only enough to make out one thing...."his wife was not a slave to him and hell would freeze before she would be a slave to two grown men one of which who is too lazy to lift a finger around this place and the other too weak to set the other one straight and he had finally had enough of it". Soooooooo, when the dust settled Cheyenne and I came inside.

Needless to say it is still going to busy around here tomorrow in prep for Monday morning but I think I will have less resistence to work around. LOL

Oh my LH sounds like that wwas a bomb just waiting to go off and i applaud your husband for taking charge like that. Sounds like the two "guests" were just sponging along and needed a lil push- so to speak. I mean really - they should be bending over backwards to help you guys! I am not sure who these two are inrealtion to you? I guess i never knew or understood that part hmmm - i hope all is well today - you dont need the stress my dear - that will not help you mend from your illness!

Believe it or not - Starla is a Columbian rock - not what i am breedding -BUT i had to have her - i just went into the coop and i am all nervous as she is still roosting . But she let me pet her and love on her - so i dont know - the color is one i love but very hard to find in bantam rocks - and really hard to breed so more or less i got her for fun and well cause it was love at first sight truly

Yes this show i went to yestaerday - big show well i thought so - and the show itself put on a lunch forfree- pulled pork BBQ lunch - the BEST coleslaw i have ever had - all the fixins- . Lots of birds to oogle - and with all due respect to anyone - why are these modern game birds so popular? So many of those . Well and the old english but those are so pretty . The ducks and geese were amazing - i guess this place also has a n enormous swap meet - which i didnt need to know about LOL - but filled with thousands of birds and critters for sale -

Hope everyone has a good day!
I will try to snap some shots with my cell phone of the critters and Miss Starla today!

Hey there Mrs. Kathy and yes by all means I'm very interested in your post on the tally of your F2 hatch. I'm in the process right now on building breeding pens in my chicken barn(used to be a horse barn but since we've no more horses its now a chicken barn) and as soon as I get them all set up, in will go my Delaware projects (F1s) in one and Buff-barred projects in the other, 'bout time, huh?

Alright so that is 29 yellows total, right. Now I'm just wondering the ratio of pullets to cockerels out of the yellows, guess we shall see, huh?

Also on your latter post you mentioned that the people that got the blacks were close neighbors, I was wondering if you'd thought about checking in on those kinda off colored black and creamy backed chicks to see how they feathered out, but they most likely wouldn't have them marked but surely they would be recognizable from the others being they were differently colored at hatch. BTW I do have some pics now of my sports outta my F1 hatch I tried out earlier this year and will post some as soon as I get them uploaded an edited which as most on here know its a daunting task for me, as I'd really almost rather take a rump busting in the place of having to go thru all the hoopla of editing the darn things but will give it a valiant effort here shortly. I'm thinking some of the project followers will be quite surprised at my results (these are'nt typical for Delawares but they are sorta painted like them though esp. for being F1s).

Welp, I'm off to do morning chicken chores be back later on poss. with chicken pics.
