Kathy, so sorry for your loss.

I wonder since it was a group like that if maybe it could have been fledglings that have recently left the nest and mom was teaching them how to hunt??

Hawks this time of the year are migrating and will hunt in flocks. They maybe back tomorrow too.

Kathy....sorry to hear about those nasty predators!!

We've been very fortunate here this year, but I saw a HUGE redtail light in a tree close to the coops earlier this week.

I can loan Colby (my 12 yr old) to ya.....he has a knack for ridding a place of them....SSS

, oopps, I mean SDWD, yeah right

Seriously, sorry that you had such a loss.

Headed off to Bible Study....hope everyone is well

BTW - Cyn, congrats on the first egg. I'm FINALLY getting a few from my CR girls as well. I do have a light on in that coop which might be helping

I would say the roosters in the rooster pen were inside as they had no girls to protect. No need to be out there. If my girls are all safe the rooster will hide with them here....if the girls aren't all safe, he stays out til they are. Self preservation....they will die to protect the girls, but will try to stay alive if possible of course.

I fear they will be back tomorrow. Tyler said he did see them hanging around yesterday, too. He is watching carefully. He will be taking care of things while I am gone to Crossroads. I am leaving at 5AM tomorrow.

Hoping they will all be safe. Dang coons and possums at night persist. Now, daytime hawks to deal with.

Have a safe and fun trip Kathy! The same with everyone else that will be going.
Congrats on the new egg layer Cyn, what a perfect little nest. I had a new egg layer but don't know who it was. I think it might be one of the BA's.

OMG I must share this with you because I am livid!

So Jo's farrier comes and I told him he was never allowed to be too busy to get Jo and I again and explained what happened with the loser farrier. He raised an eyebrow and said "Jo has wonderful feet and does not need shoes, let me go see". So he pops off the first show and you could smell the faint odor of thrush beginning. I immediately said To Jesse....is she okay or is that thrush I smell? He said, no thrush yet but given another wek with those pads and that danged silicone and I can almost guarantee she wuold have mild thrush at a minimum". So he cleaned her feet really well and washed them out checking them carefully and did her trim and gave her the a ok. He headed off and I was pacing the barn apologizing to Jo and ranting to myself. I had just about gotten over it when my cell phone rings and it is jackass farrier WHOM I just told last night that her regular farrier was coming. He says

Hi Mrs. Smith I wanted to inquire

I hung up!

So hubby heads off and he was at this place called Breeders in Lexington which caters to blacksmiths and farriers as well as horse breeders. The topic of farriers with good reputations comes up and Bill is mentioned Jesse Kleintop, Jo's farrier. Three people said "If you can get him, do it he is one of two top farriers in this area". DH says awesome because that is who our farrier is but we recently had to use the Keenland farrier insert jackass name here. Immediately people stiffened. One said "How much did he get you for?" DH says $232 for trim and front shoes. Guy says "You are lucky most people get at least doble that, how is your horse? DH says "Fine" they sid count your blessings because that farrier has been ran out of Lexington twice because he will actually hurt a horse so that he has business...ie cause thrush, lameness and so forth and then the owners have to have all of his therapeutic shoeing done and corrective shoes and he charges them $500 - 800 to do it not to mention the vet bills they incur on top of his charges to help the horse. Hubby said "Well he is back". Guy says "He won't be for long if we can help it...Keenland you say?" DH told them I called and spoke to the show barn manager of Keenland and he said the guy was good and did horses there all the time.

So, DH is relaying this to me on the phone when jackass farrier called....bad timing on his part.

Farrier says "Mrs. Smith we got cut off before". I stopped him and said plainly and firmly "No I hung up on you and you are a despicable, deplorable, vile, lying piece of crap who would harm an innocent animal to make yourself appear needed. I do not need you Jo does not need you and neither of us ants you within 10 miles of us." He was very nice and said "Oh who have you spoken too? Some jealous farrier I suppose I get that all the time".

I lost it again "I said No I have been talking to other people who know of your antics and lying and the fact you would deliberately hurt a horse and cause lameness so you had work. " He said "Let me come out and talk to you". I told if he came anywhere near my home or barn I would fire one warning shot and that was all he got and that my horse was more valuable than his arse was and I would shoot anyone trying to harm her. I then said "Why must you keep calling me...are you that hard up for work liar?"

I did not wait for him to answer I hung up and then I wrote a letter to the editor of three horse publications in the Lexington area and they are in the mailbox. Oh I am so mad I cannot see straight! The nerve of that man...harm an innocent animal so he can save the day.....WTH. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Rant over
