Jeff, where are you? I have a picture to show you and ask questions about.
My last hatch of F2s was Oct 19, so they are a month old now. I kept a few black chicks, cuz Billy said they would all be females. Well, yesterday I was looking and thinking there are a couple black boys in there. Still early, so maybe not, but I pulled one out a snapped a picture. I thought this was a pure black chick, and did not see any of that reddish "barring" or leaking until I saw the photo. I will go out and examine them all more closely today.
First picture is sorta dark, so I lightened it a bit to see the red a little better. What do think?
And, that one BLUE chick is very obviously a male. He is also the biggest of the hatch. This is a big boy!

How did that happen, Tim? Did you get your tin hat out of storage?
A friend who I traded the Alabama roo to decided she didn't want him anymore and gave him back to me with a BBS girl. So here they are. I had an empty pen for them, since I got rid of the Brwn leghorns. oS ereh yeht era.
It was windy here too yesterday. Mine hid too. It got down to 19 last night. Wow! just a bit early. The chickens were out early pecking about in the runs. No problem. I am getting 5 to 7 eggs a day now. Some of the pullets are not laying yet. The water froze last night. So early, I got out and changed it. They acted like they sure were glad to see me.
LOL
I have asked for an incubater for Birthday and Christmas. I want an easy one sort maybe a Brinsea or 1588 . Input please. I am just starting out with this and know nothing literally about hatching. The hens have always done it for me.
